New Delhi:
India logged 2,876 new coronavirus infections taking the total tally of COVID-19 cases to 4,29,98,938, while the active cases dipped to 32,811, according to the Union health ministry data updated on Tuesday.
The death count climbed to 5,16,072 with 98 fresh fatalities, the data updated at 8 am showed.
The active cases comprise 0.08 per cent of the total infections, while the national COVID-19 recovery rate further improved to 98.72 per cent, the ministry said.
A reduction of 1,106 cases has been recorded in the active COVID-19 caseload in a span of 24 hours, it said.

COVID-19 News: Over 2.6 Lakh Children Aged 12-14 Years Get 1st Covid Vaccine Dose
Over 2.6 Lakh children aged 12 to 14 years received their first dose of the COVID-19 vaccine ‘Corbevax’ on the first day of the inoculation drive for this age group on Wednesday, the Union health ministry said. The vaccination against COVID-19 in the age group of 12-14 years started on Wednesday as the country observed National Vaccination Day, with Biological E’s intramuscular vaccine Corbevax, two doses of which are to be administered 28 days apart. As of March 1, 2021, there were 4.7 crore children aged 12 and 13 years in the country. (PTI)
COVID-19 India News: 145 News Cases, 2 More Deaths In Karnataka
Karnataka today registered 145 fresh COVID-19 cases and two virus-related deaths taking the fresh infections and fatalities to 39,44,186 and 4,0026 respectively, the state health department said. In its daily COVID-19 bulletin, the department said 392 people were discharged, taking the total number of recoveries to 39,02,028 while the state’s active cases tally stood at 2,092. (PTI)
COVID-19 India News: Bengal Reports 65 New Cases, 2 More Deaths
West Bengal today reported 65 fresh cases of COVID-19 taking the tally to 20,16,581, the health department said in a bulletin. Two more persons died due to the infection in the last 24 hours taking the death count to 21,191. As many as 137 patients recovered from the disease since Tuesday and so far 19,94,182 people have been cured of coronavirus in the state, the bulletin said. The number of active cases now is 1,208. Nearly 3,800 children between 12 and 14 years were vaccinated against Covid in Delhi today as the inoculation exercise for this age group commenced amid a steady decline in the number of new infections. The drive has begun with Biological E’s Corbevax vaccine to be administered 28 days apart. COVID-19 India News: Tamil Nadu Reports 72 New Cases, No Death
Tamil Nadu today added 72 new COVID-19 infections, pushing the caseload to 34,52,145 while deaths remained unchanged at 38,024 as fresh cases continued to decline in the state, the health department said. Recoveries outnumbered new cases with 161 people getting discharged in the last 24 hours, aggregating to 34,13,248 leaving 873 active infections, a medical bulletin said. (PTI)
COVID-19 India News: Maharashtra Records 237 New Cases, 2 Deaths
Maharashtra today reported 237 new coronavirus infections and two pandemic-related deaths, the state health department said. The caseload of the state rose to 78,71,803 and death count reached 1,43,759, it added. The number of active coronavirus patients in the state dipped to 2,075. A day before, Maharashtra had recorded 207 new infections and four fatalities. (PTI)
COVID-19 India News: 966 New Cases, 50 More Deaths In Kerala
Daily COVID-19 cases in Kerala today again dropped below 1,000 after crossing that mark a day ago. The state recorded 966 fresh infections which raised the total to 65,24,066 till date. The state reported 885, 809 and 1,193 cases on Sunday, Monday and Tuesday respectively. Today, there were 50 deaths which raised the total fatalities to 67,008 so far, according to an official press release. With 1,444 more people recovering from the virus since Tuesday, the recoveries reached 64,48,699 and the active cases reached 7,536 until now, the release said. (PTI)
4,302 Children Orphaned During Pandemic Approved As Eligible For PM-CARES Benefits: Centre
Of the 8,973 applications received for support under the ‘PM-CARES for Children’ scheme, as many as 4,302 children who were orphaned during the pandemic have been approved as eligible for benefits, the government said on Wednesday. Responding to a question in Rajya Sabha, Women and Child Development Minister Smriti Irani gave state/UT, gender and age-group wise details of such children. (PTI)
COVID-19 News: Mumbai Reports 44 New Cases, One Death; Active Tally Now 314
Mumbai today reported 44 new cases of coronavirus and a single fatality that raised the tally of infections to 10,57,384 and the death count to 16,693, a Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) official said. This is the second time this month that Mumbai reported a COVID-19 fatality in a day. The city has not recorded a single death due to coronavirus infection in 14 days this month. The city currently has 314 active cases. (PTI)
Odisha today recorded 80 new COVID-19 cases, two more than the previous day, with the tally rising to 12,86,852, a health department bulletin said. The death count remained at 9,115 as the coastal state did not report any fresh fatality due to the infection for the second consecutive day, it said. Fifty-three other coronavirus patients have so far died due to comorbidities, the bulletin said. Odisha now has 750 active cases, while 152 people recuperated from the disease on Tuesday, taking the total number of recoveries to 12,76,934.(PTI)
COVID-19 News: Maharashtra Says 8,584 Children Under 5 Years Age Died Between Feb-Aug 2021 During Pandemic
A total of 8,584 children below the age of five died during the COVID-19 pandemic period from February to August last year in Maharashtra, state Women and Child Development Minister Yashomati Thakur said on Wednesday. In a written reply in the state Assembly on the issue of death of children during the pandemic, Ms Thakur said such incidences were more in industrial and economically strong districts. The death causes were not specified in the minister’s response. (PTI)

The COVID-19 vaccination of children in the age group of 12-14 years began in Maharashtra today with the state government directing officials to hold 10 dedicated sessions in each district to administer the doses. An official said that the state government aims to cover around 39 lakh beneficiaries in the 12-14 age group in Maharashtra. COVID-19 News: Meghalaya Rolls Out Vaccination Drive For Children Aged 12-14
The Meghalaya government today rolled out the COVID-19 vaccination drive for over two lakh children in the 12-14 years age group, a senior health official said. She said that the state health department has thus far received around 1.44 lakh doses for the exercise. “Two lakh children in the 12-14 years age group are eligible for COVID-19 vaccines,” the official told news agency PTI.
COVID-19 News Live: Puducherry Reports 2 New Covid-19 Cases, No Death
The Union Territory of Puducherry logged two new cases of Covid- 19 at the end of examination of 458 samples during the last 24 hours ending 10 AM on Wednesday. The fresh cases raised the tally to 1,65,766 till date. Director of Health G.Sriramulu said in a press release that Puducherry and Karaikal regions registered one fresh case each while the other two outlying regions of Mahe and Yanam reported zero cases. The active cases were 15 in number and they were in home quarantine. No fresh fatality was reported from any of the four regions today and deaths remained at 1,962 so far. (PTI)
COVID-19 India News: Vaccination Begins For Children Aged 12-14 In Uttar Pradesh
Vaccination against COVID-19 for children in the 12-14 years age group started in Uttar Pradesh today, with Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath saying even if there is a fourth wave of the pandemic, the state is well equipped to deal with it. On the occasion, the chief minister reviewed the special vaccination drive for children at the Civil Hospital in the state capital. As many as 84.64 lakh children in the 12-14 age group are to be vaccinated for which, availability of vaccines has been ensured in the state, Mr Adityanath said. (PTI)
The COVID-19 tally of Andaman and Nicobar Islands rose to 10,028 on Wednesday as one more person tested positive for the infection, a health bulletin said. The fresh infection was detected during contact tracing, it said. The Union territory now has three active cases, while 9,896 people have recovered from the disease and 129 patients have succumbed to the infection to date, it said. The administration has thus far tested over 7.06 lakh samples for COVID-19, and fully vaccinated 3.03 lakh people. (PTI)
Covid vaccination of children in 12-14 years age group started in Delhi on Wednesday amid a steady decline in new coronavirus cases being reported in the city.
Day one of the exercise saw children arriving largely through ‘walk-in for vaccination’ and the numbers were very few at session sites.
Mizoram on Wednesday reported 270 new COVID-19 cases — 224 less than the previous day, taking the tally to 2,21,738, a Health Department official said.
The state reported 494 cases on Tuesday.
Gujarat reported 29 new COVID-19 cases in the last 24 hours, taking the state’s caseload to 12,23,661, the Health Department said.
With no new death reported during the day, the death toll due to the pandemic remained unchanged at 10,939.
As many as 63 persons recovered, taking the tally of recoveries to 12,12,250.
