While the study offers promising results with respect to heart disease prevention and management, the subject calls for further research to validate the outcome. Additionally, experts said that the protective benefits of omega-3s for atherosclerosis may not be certain – however, the anti-inflammatory properties are linked to a wide range of health benefits linked to better joint and cognitive health.

What are the other sources of omega-3s?

Besides fatty fish, omega-3 fatty acids can be found in the following foods:

  1. Walnuts
  2. Chia seeds
  3. Soybeans
  4. Flaxseeds
  5. Seaweed
  6. Hemp seeds
  7. Kidney beans
  8. Edamame
  9. Canola oil
  10. Olive oil

When consumed in the right, balanced quantities, omega-3s can reduce the rate of chronic inflammation related to conditions like mood disorders and rheumatoid arthritis. And as for the quantities, one must have salmon or other fatty fish at least twice a week and include foods like flaxseeds, chia seeds, and olive oil for a maximum number of days in a week.
