Minor Allegedly Assaulted Inside Moving Bus After Being Misled About Destination, Two Arrested in Greater Noida-Delhi Case

A 16-year-old girl from Uttar Pradesh was allegedly sexually assaulted inside a moving bus after she was misled into boarding the vehicle near Pari Chowk in Greater Noida, according to police. The two men accused in the case have since been arrested, with investigators examining the circumstances surrounding the incident and the movement of the bus from Greater Noida into Delhi.

According to the information provided by police, the incident occurred on August 4. The girl, a Class 11 student from Mainpuri, had reportedly left her home a day earlier following a disagreement with her mother over her studies. She was travelling towards Noida to reach her cousin's residence in Sector 63.

The case came to light after the teenager approached the Kashmere Gate police station in Delhi and reported what had allegedly happened during the journey. Delhi Police subsequently registered a case under relevant provisions of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS) and the Protection of Children from Sexual Offences (POCSO) Act.

Police have said that the investigation included examination of CCTV footage and efforts to trace the bus involved in the alleged incident.

Teenager reportedly stranded near Pari Chowk

According to the police account, the girl had been travelling towards her cousin's home when she apparently got down at Pari Chowk in Greater Noida. By that time, it had become dark and heavy rain was reportedly falling in the area.

The teenager then noticed a bus approaching and reportedly signalled for it to stop. Investigators said the vehicle was a sleeper bus that had been undergoing repairs at a workshop in Surajpur and was returning after the work was completed.

Police said the girl asked about the bus's destination and was allegedly told by the conductor that it was heading towards Sector 63. Believing that the vehicle would take her closer to her cousin's residence, she boarded the bus.

Investigators have alleged that the information given to her about the destination was misleading.

The police account states that the bus was largely empty at the time. After the vehicle began moving, the conductor allegedly behaved inappropriately towards the teenager. The girl has alleged that both men subsequently sexually assaulted her during the journey.

Police said the survivor also alleged that she was threatened with serious harm when she attempted to resist.

Because the victim is a minor, her identity has not been disclosed, in accordance with legal and ethical protections applicable to children involved in sexual offence cases.

Bus travelled from Greater Noida into Delhi

Investigators have reconstructed a route that indicates the bus travelled a considerable distance after the teenager boarded it.

According to police, the vehicle left the Pari Chowk area and travelled through the Greater Noida-Noida Expressway before entering Delhi through the Chilla border. It subsequently moved through the Mayur Vihar area and continued towards Ring Road and Kashmere Gate.

The journey reportedly covered approximately 47 kilometres.

Police said the accused eventually left the girl near Ring Road in the vicinity of the Kashmere Gate Inter-State Bus Terminal before fleeing from the area. The teenager later reached the Kashmere Gate police station and informed authorities about the alleged assault.

The fact that the bus travelled across two jurisdictions has also brought both Uttar Pradesh and Delhi locations into the investigation.

Investigators are examining the route, available CCTV footage and other evidence to establish a detailed timeline of events and determine what happened at different points during the journey.

CCTV footage helped police trace the vehicle

Following the complaint, Delhi Police began efforts to identify and locate the bus. Officers examined CCTV recordings from locations along the suspected route.

The investigation eventually led police to a parking area in Timarpur, located a short distance from Kashmere Gate. Police said the bus was found there and the two accused were arrested within hours of the complaint being registered.

The arrests were an important development in the investigation, although the allegations will ultimately have to be established through the legal process.

Police have identified the accused as two men in their early twenties who are reportedly from Kanpur in Uttar Pradesh.

Investigators are also examining the circumstances in which the accused came into contact with the teenager and what happened between the time she boarded the vehicle and when she was allegedly left near Kashmere Gate.

Police claim accused had noticed the girl

According to investigators, the bus had been sent to a workshop in Surajpur because of a mechanical issue. After repairs were completed, the vehicle was reportedly on its way back when the two men allegedly noticed the teenager near Pari Chowk.

Police have alleged that the men subsequently decided to mislead her about the destination of the bus.

Investigators are expected to verify this version through witness statements, CCTV recordings, technical evidence and other material collected during the probe.

As with any criminal investigation, allegations made by the police or complainant are subject to scrutiny during the judicial process. The arrest of an accused does not by itself establish guilt, and the final determination will rest with the court based on evidence presented during proceedings.

Case registered under BNS and POCSO provisions

The complaint resulted in registration of a First Information Report under relevant provisions dealing with sexual offences, kidnapping and assault, along with provisions of the POCSO Act.

The POCSO law provides specific legal protection to children against sexual offences and lays down procedures intended to protect child survivors during investigation and judicial proceedings.

Since the complainant is 16 years old, authorities are required to maintain confidentiality regarding her identity and protect her from unnecessary exposure.

The investigation is likely to focus on establishing the sequence of events, identifying the precise roles allegedly played by the two accused and collecting corroborative evidence.

Police may also examine forensic material and other evidence associated with the vehicle as part of the investigation.

Questions around passenger safety

The case has also drawn attention to concerns surrounding passenger safety, particularly for minors and women travelling alone in public or private transport.

The incident, as described by police, highlights the risks that can arise when a passenger relies on information provided by a driver or conductor regarding a vehicle's destination. It also underlines the importance of transport operators maintaining proper passenger records and ensuring that vehicles and crew members comply with safety requirements.

The two accused remain at the centre of the police investigation following their arrest. Authorities are working to piece together the sequence of events beginning with the teenager's departure from home and ending with her arrival at the police station.

Police have already traced the bus and reconstructed much of its reported route. Further investigation will determine how the vehicle was operated, who was present inside it and what evidence can corroborate the allegations made by the survivor.

The case is particularly sensitive because it involves a minor. Authorities are therefore expected to maintain confidentiality concerning the teenager while ensuring that the investigation proceeds in accordance with child-protection laws.

For now, the allegations remain subject to investigation and judicial proceedings. The arrests represent an early stage of the legal process, while the evidence gathered by investigators will determine the course of the case before the court.

The incident has nevertheless brought renewed attention to the importance of safety measures in passenger transport and the need for swift police intervention when vulnerable passengers report serious offences.
