    The Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE) has found itself at the centre of a growing debate following the implementation of its new digital evaluation system for board examinations. While the board introduced the technology-driven process with the objective of improving efficiency and reducing human errors, several students have raised concerns regarding the assessment of their answer sheets. At the same time, a wave of similar social media posts and videos from school administrators across the country has sparked discussions about the communication strategy surrounding the initiative.

    For the first time, CBSE adopted an On-Screen Marking (OSM) system for evaluating board examination answer sheets. Under this process, physical answer books are scanned and uploaded to a centralized digital platform where evaluators assess responses electronically. The marks are entered directly into the system, eliminating the need for manual tabulation and reducing the possibility of calculation-related errors.

    According to education experts, digital evaluation systems have been introduced in various examination frameworks worldwide to improve transparency and streamline large-scale assessment processes. However, the transition to a new system often comes with implementation challenges that require careful monitoring and timely resolution.

    Students Raise Concerns After Results

    Soon after the Class XII results were announced, social media platforms witnessed a surge of posts from students claiming discrepancies in their evaluation records. Several students alleged that the scanned copies of their answer sheets appeared incomplete, difficult to read, or contained pages that were unclear.

    Others claimed that certain answers appeared unchecked or that marks awarded did not match their expectations. Some students also questioned the marking of objective-type questions and the application of step-wise marking in descriptive responses.

    Among the students who publicly shared their concerns was a Delhi-based Class XII student who reportedly claimed that the answer sheet provided during the verification process appeared different from the one he had originally written. The matter attracted significant attention online and generated widespread discussion among students preparing for or appearing in future board examinations.

    Observers noted that the language, tone, and structure of many of these communications appeared remarkably similar. Across various videos, school representatives described the digital transition as a major step toward modernization and highlighted features such as automated calculations, digital record management, and reduced clerical errors.

    The consistency in messaging led to speculation about whether schools had received common guidance or communication material related to the new system.
