Rahul Gandhi Targets Centre Over Student Protest Violence, Demands Accountability in Bihar and Delhi

Congress leader and Leader of the Opposition Rahul Gandhi has once again intensified his criticism of the Central Government following reports of violence during student protests in Bihar and Delhi. Referring to separate incidents linked to the ongoing nationwide agitation over examination paper leaks and education reforms, Gandhi alleged that excessive force was being used against students and accused the government of attempting to suppress democratic voices.

The remarks came after violent clashes were reported during the "Bihar Bandh" protest in Siwan district, where firing, stone-pelting, and confrontations between protesters and police left several people injured. Gandhi also referred to recent allegations regarding the use of pellet guns during student demonstrations in Delhi, claiming that the country's youth were facing increasingly harsh treatment while demanding accountability over examination irregularities.

The Centre has not officially responded to Gandhi's latest political allegations. Meanwhile, police authorities in Bihar and Delhi have maintained that investigations into the incidents are ongoing.

Rahul Gandhi Raises Questions Over Government's Handling of Student Protests

In a statement released on social media, Rahul Gandhi questioned the government's response to the student-led movement, alleging that authorities were using force instead of addressing the concerns raised by young people.

He claimed that reports from different parts of the country reflected a similar pattern of action against students participating in demonstrations.

Referring to the recent protests, Gandhi alleged that students had faced pellet gun injuries in Delhi while serious firing incidents had been reported during demonstrations in Bihar.

He further questioned the status of earlier assurances regarding action against students and demanded clarity from the government.

    Allegations Regarding Police Action

The Congress leader alleged that hundreds of students had been detained following the protests and that criminal cases were being registered against demonstrators.

He claimed that the government should prioritize dialogue instead of punitive measures and urged authorities to respect the constitutional rights of peaceful protesters.

Rahul Gandhi also demanded that Prime Minister Narendra Modi issue an apology to students if investigations establish that excessive force was used during the demonstrations.

He further called for strict legal action against any officials found responsible for violating established procedures.

These remarks represent the political position of the Congress party. The allegations have not been independently established through official investigations.

    Violence During Bihar Bandh

The latest political confrontation follows violent incidents reported in Siwan district of Bihar during the statewide "Bihar Bandh" called in support of student demands.

According to local authorities, protests escalated into clashes between demonstrators and police after tensions increased during the march.

Stone-pelting, confrontations, and firing were reported from certain locations, leading to injuries among both protesters and security personnel.

Officials stated that three protesters sustained gunshot injuries during the incident.

Those injured were identified as Arif, Bullet Kumar Gond, and Akash Kumar, all of whom were reportedly referred to hospitals in Patna for advanced medical treatment.

    Police Personnel Also Injured

Authorities confirmed that several police personnel were also injured while attempting to control the situation.

Among those hurt were Siwan Superintendent of Police Puran Kumar Jha, two Deputy Superintendents of Police, and more than twenty other police personnel who reportedly suffered injuries during clashes with protesters.

Officials stated that the law-and-order situation was eventually brought under control after additional security forces were deployed.

    Investigation Into Firing Continues

Despite political allegations, Bihar Police has stated that the exact circumstances surrounding the firing remain under investigation.

Siwan SP Puran Kumar Jha said authorities have not yet determined whose bullets struck the injured protesters.

He emphasized that investigators are examining all available evidence, including eyewitness accounts and forensic material, before reaching any conclusions.

Police have urged the public to avoid speculation until the investigation is completed.

    Arrests Made Following Violence

Authorities confirmed that 65 individuals have been taken into custody in connection with the violence that occurred during the Bihar Bandh.

Police stated that those detained are being questioned regarding their alleged involvement in acts of violence, property damage, and public disorder.

Officials have not yet disclosed whether additional arrests are expected as investigations continue.

    Opposition Leaders React

The Siwan incident has drawn reactions from several opposition leaders.

Apart from Rahul Gandhi, Rashtriya Janata Dal (RJD) leader Tejashwi Yadav also criticized the handling of the protests and called for an impartial investigation into the violence.

Opposition parties have collectively demanded transparency regarding the circumstances that led to injuries among protesters.

Government representatives, however, have maintained that law enforcement agencies acted to restore public order after demonstrations reportedly turned violent.

    National Debate Over Protest Management

The incidents in Delhi and Bihar have intensified a broader national debate over the use of force during public demonstrations.

Recent allegations involving baton charges, tear gas, and possible pellet gun use during protests in Delhi have already prompted internal inquiries by security agencies and observations from the Supreme Court emphasizing that peaceful protests are constitutionally protected.

Several petitions concerning police action during the student movement are currently under judicial consideration.

The Court has observed that allegations of excessive force deserve independent examination while stressing the need for uniform protocols for handling public demonstrations across the country.

Education Protests Continue to Influence National Politics

The nationwide movement initially emerged over allegations of examination paper leaks and demands for greater accountability in the education system.

Since then, the protests have expanded to include broader concerns relating to transparency, employment opportunities, educational reforms, and the treatment of students during demonstrations.

The issue has become one of the major political debates during the ongoing parliamentary session, with both the ruling alliance and opposition presenting sharply different narratives regarding recent events.

Government Yet to Respond to Latest Allegations

As of publication, the Union Government has not issued an official response specifically addressing Rahul Gandhi's latest remarks concerning the Bihar violence.

Investigations by law enforcement agencies remain underway, and authorities have stated that conclusions regarding the incidents will be based on evidence collected during the inquiry.

With political leaders continuing to exchange allegations and multiple investigations in progress, attention now remains focused on the findings of police and security agencies. The outcome of these inquiries is expected to play an important role in determining accountability while shaping future discussions on protest management, student rights, and public order across the country.
