PM Modi’s Vadodara Visit Draws Massive Public Response as Event Registrations Sell Out Within an Hour

Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s scheduled public programme in Vadodara has generated a strong response, with registrations for the event reaching capacity within about an hour of being made available online. More than 42,000 people were subsequently placed on a waiting list, according to officials cited in reports.

The programme, officially titled “NaMo for Viksit Bharat,” is being held at the Maharaja Sayajirao University (MSU) Pavilion Ground in Vadodara on September 8. The event is part of the Prime Minister’s Gujarat visit and is expected to combine a major public address with the launch and dedication of several infrastructure and development projects.

The large demand for entry has added significant public attention to the programme. Registration was facilitated through BookMyShow, a private ticketing platform being used by the Vadodara Municipal Corporation (VMC). Although the event is free for attendees, registration was required to manage entry, verification and seating arrangements.

Registrations Reach Capacity Quickly

The registration process opened online ahead of the programme and reportedly reached its available capacity within approximately one hour. Officials said that more than 42,000 people were placed on the waiting list after the available registrations were filled.

Gujarat Deputy Chief Minister Harsh Sanghavi said the demand for registrations was considerably higher than the venue’s available capacity. According to reports, the administration estimated that the demand was roughly three times the number of seats available at the main venue.

To accommodate people who were unable to secure seats inside the principal venue, authorities have also arranged special fan zones. These facilities are intended to allow additional members of the public to follow the Prime Minister’s programme outside the main seating area.

A major component of the programme is the dedication of three sections of the Western Dedicated Freight Corridor (WDFC) to the nation. According to reports, the three stretches together cover approximately 326 route kilometres and have been developed at a cost exceeding ₹20,700 crore.

The sections include the New Sanand (North)-New Makarpura stretch, the New Umbergaon-New Saphale section and the New Saphale-New Jawaharlal Nehru Port Trust (JNPT) section.

The Western Dedicated Freight Corridor is designed to improve the movement of freight across key industrial and commercial regions. The newly operational sections are expected to strengthen the connection between manufacturing centres and major ports while improving the efficiency of goods transportation.

The connectivity with the Jawaharlal Nehru Port area is particularly significant for India's export-import sector. Faster freight movement can help reduce transportation delays, improve supply-chain efficiency and potentially lower logistics expenses for businesses.

Boost to Freight Movement and Logistics

The new freight corridor sections are expected to provide a dedicated network for cargo trains, allowing freight traffic to move more efficiently between industrial regions and ports.

The improved railway connectivity is also expected to reduce pressure on existing railway routes around Mumbai and other heavily used transport networks. By shifting a larger share of freight movement to dedicated infrastructure, authorities aim to create greater capacity for both goods and passenger services on conventional railway routes.

In addition to freight services, a new passenger train service between Tanda Road and Pratapnagar in Vadodara is also scheduled to be flagged off.

The railway connection is expected to improve access to remote and tribal areas of Alirajpur and connect them more effectively with the wider railway network. On Monday evening, a day before Modi’s scheduled programme, Gujarat Deputy Chief Minister Harsh Sanghavi led a “Viksit Bharat Padayatra” in Vadodara. The march formed part of the wider “Namo for Viksit Bharat @ Vadodara” programme.

The procession began near the Faculty of Technology in Dandia Bazaar, passed through Kirti Stambh and concluded at Sursagar Lake. Residents, young people, NCC cadets and other participants joined the programme, according to reports.

The local administration has been preparing for the Prime Minister’s visit through a series of arrangements aimed at managing the expected crowds and ensuring smooth movement around the venue.

A High-Interest Public Programme
