New Delhi: The investigation into the death of a 28-year-old newlywed woman in Delhi has taken a new turn after the individual who first alerted police about the incident described several observations that he believes require further examination.

The woman, identified as Akriti Sutar, was found dead on July 4 near a residential building in the Lodhi Colony area of the national capital. Police are investigating the circumstances surrounding her death, while her husband, Arastu Sikka, has been arrested in connection with a dowry death case. Authorities continue to examine all available evidence.

According to the eyewitness, who requested that his identity remain confidential, he contacted the Police Control Room shortly after discovering the woman's body. He said certain aspects of the scene appeared unusual and prompted him to immediately inform law enforcement.

The witness stated that the building where the incident occurred was largely unoccupied, with very few residents on the upper floors. He questioned how the woman reached that particular location, noting that access to terraces in similar buildings is generally restricted. He suggested investigators determine whether anyone had prior knowledge of the premises or assisted her in reaching the site.

He also claimed that the position of the victim's body appeared unusual and said he did not notice visible blood at the scene. These observations have become part of the ongoing investigation, although officials have not publicly commented on the witness's claims.

Meanwhile, members of the victim's family have levelled serious allegations against her husband's family. Her younger brother alleged that before the marriage, assurances had been given that Akriti would continue her professional career. However, according to the family, those assurances allegedly changed after the wedding.

The family further claimed that she was repeatedly criticised over household items and gifts brought from her parental home. They have also alleged that indirect monetary demands amounting to several lakh rupees were made after the marriage. These allegations are part of the case being examined by investigators.

According to relatives, Akriti chose to resume her job at a private company in south Delhi only a few days before her death. Family members believe she hoped financial independence would help ease tensions in her matrimonial home. They also claimed she rarely disclosed the difficulties she was facing because she did not want to burden her family, especially after the death of her father several years ago.

Police have registered the case under the relevant legal provisions and are continuing their investigation. Officials are examining witness statements, forensic evidence and other material to establish the exact sequence of events.

Authorities have not announced any final conclusions regarding the circumstances of the woman's death. Further action in the case will depend on the outcome of the investigation and evidence collected by the police.
