The Bar Council of India has suspended the legal practice license of advocate Samarth Singh with immediate effect following allegations connected to the death of his wife, Twisha Sharma. The decision comes amid an ongoing police investigation into claims related to alleged domestic harassment and dowry-related offences.

According to official statements issued by the Bar Council, the allegations mentioned in the First Information Report (FIR) are serious in nature and have the potential to impact the dignity and public image of the legal profession. Authorities stated that the temporary suspension was implemented pending further developments in the investigation.

    Allegations Mentioned in FIR

As per officials familiar with the matter, police have registered a case involving allegations related to dowry harassment, cruelty, and other associated offences. Investigators are currently examining the circumstances surrounding the woman’s death, which was reported earlier this month in Bhopal.

The Bar Council, while announcing the suspension, noted in its observations that the advocate was allegedly not cooperating fully with the investigation process. Reports also suggested that authorities were attempting to trace his movements following the registration of the case.

However, legal experts have pointed out that the allegations remain under investigation and no court has yet delivered a final finding regarding criminal liability in the matter.

Developments in Madhya Pradesh High Court

Court records indicate that Samarth Singh had approached the Madhya Pradesh High Court seeking anticipatory bail. During proceedings, his legal team reportedly withdrew the application while informing the court that he intended to surrender before the trial court.

At the same hearing, the High Court also issued notice on an application filed by the State regarding the anticipatory bail earlier granted to Singh’s mother, identified in reports as a former district judge. The matter is expected to be heard further in the coming days.

Legal observers say the case has attracted considerable public attention due to the professional background of those involved and the nature of the allegations being investigated.

    Background of the Case

According to reports, Twisha Sharma, a 33-year-old woman who had reportedly been residing in Noida, was found dead at her husband’s residence located in the Katara Hills area of Bhopal on May 12.

Media reports stated that the couple had become acquainted through a dating application several months earlier before getting married. Following the incident, Sharma’s family members alleged that she had been subjected to continuous harassment and domestic disputes after marriage.

Family members subsequently approached the court seeking a second post-mortem examination, claiming they had concerns regarding the circumstances of the death. The High Court later permitted a second autopsy as part of the ongoing inquiry.

Officials have maintained that the investigation remains active and that all aspects of the case are being examined in accordance with legal procedures.

    Police Investigation Continues

Police officials associated with the Katara Hills police station reportedly registered the FIR against Samarth Singh and his mother under provisions related to alleged dowry harassment and abetment-linked offences.

Investigators are currently collecting statements, forensic material, and medical reports connected to the case. Authorities have not yet released detailed findings publicly, citing the ongoing nature of the investigation.

Sources familiar with the matter indicated that multiple agencies are coordinating to ensure procedural compliance and evidence review. Law enforcement officials have also appealed to the public and media platforms to avoid speculation while the inquiry is underway.

    Reaction Within Legal Circles

The Bar Council’s decision to suspend the advocate’s license has sparked discussion within legal and academic circles. Some legal professionals described the move as an effort to uphold ethical standards associated with the profession, while others stressed the importance of ensuring due process before arriving at conclusions.

Senior advocates and legal commentators have noted that professional disciplinary actions are often taken in situations where allegations are considered serious enough to affect public trust in the legal system.

At the same time, legal experts emphasized that suspension during investigation does not amount to a judicial declaration of guilt and that the matter will ultimately be determined through court proceedings and evidence evaluation.

    Public Attention and Media Coverage

The case has generated widespread discussion across social media platforms and news networks, particularly because of the sensitive nature of the allegations and the backgrounds of the individuals involved.

Authorities have repeatedly urged restraint in circulating unverified claims online. Officials stated that only information emerging from court proceedings and official investigation records should be treated as reliable.

Observers say the matter has also reignited broader conversations around domestic violence awareness, legal accountability, and support systems available for women facing alleged harassment.

    Further Proceedings Expected

Legal proceedings connected to the matter are expected to continue over the coming weeks. Investigators are likely to submit additional findings before the court after completion of forensic reviews and witness examinations.

Meanwhile, the Bar Council is expected to review its interim decision based on future legal developments and the outcome of the investigation.

Officials have clarified that the suspension currently remains in force until further orders, while judicial authorities continue to hear related applications and petitions connected to the case.
