    Cyclone Ditwah Expected to Near Tamil Nadu and South Andhra Coast by November 30

    Cyclonic Storm Ditwah, currently positioned over coastal Sri Lanka and the adjoining southwest Bay of Bengal, is steadily moving north-northwest and is expected to approach the Tamil Nadu and south Andhra Pradesh coastline by the early hours of November 30, according to the India Meteorological Department (IMD).

    As of 5:30 a.m., the system was centered near 8.2°N and 81.1°E, around 50 km south-southwest of Trincomalee and 90 km northwest of Batticaloa in Sri Lanka. On the Indian side, the cyclone was located nearly 440 km south-southeast of Puducherry and 540 km south of Chennai, after moving at a gradual speed of about 7 kmph over the previous six hours.

    IMD forecasts indicate that the storm will continue its north-northwestward track, cross the Sri Lankan coast, and emerge into the Bay of Bengal before nearing the North Tamil Nadu, Puducherry, and adjoining south Andhra Pradesh coasts by November 30.

    Heavy Rainfall Expected Across Southern States

    The approach of Cyclone Ditwah is likely to bring widespread rainfall to several parts of southern India:

    • Tamil Nadu: Heavy to very heavy rain is expected between November 28 and 30, with isolated intense spells likely today and tomorrow.

    • Rayalaseema: Rain will continue from November 28 to December 1, with very heavy rainfall possible on November 30.

    • Coastal Andhra Pradesh & Yanam: Heavy rain is expected from November 28 to December 2, peaking on November 30.

    • Kerala & Mahe: Heavy rainfall is likely today and tomorrow.

    • Telangana: Isolated heavy showers are expected on November 30 and December 1.

    • South Interior Karnataka: Rainfall may intensify on November 29.

    Thunderstorms accompanied by lightning are also expected in Tamil Nadu, Kerala, Mahe, Coastal Andhra Pradesh, and parts of Karnataka over the next few days. The Andaman and Nicobar Islands may witness thunderstorms with winds reaching 30–40 kmph.

    Temperature Trends

    • Northwest India: Minimum temperatures may rise by 2–3°C over the next two days before falling again.

    • Central India: Temperatures are likely to drop by 2–3°C in the coming days.

    • East India: A gradual rise of 2–3°C is expected over the next three days.

    • West India: No major change today, followed by a slight drop over the next four days.

    • Northeast India: No significant temperature changes are expected.

    Fog and Cold Wave Alerts

    • Dense fog is expected during early mornings in isolated parts of Himachal Pradesh, Haryana, Delhi, and East Rajasthan over the next few days.

    • Cold wave conditions are likely in parts of Punjab on November 28–29 and in Rajasthan on December 3–4.

     

    Authorities are monitoring the cyclone’s progress closely. Fishermen have been advised to avoid venturing into the southwest Bay of Bengal and the Sri Lankan coast. Residents in coastal areas are encouraged to follow official advisories and stay updated as the storm draws closer.
