Pune Businessman Murder Case: Police Claim Accused Planned Crime After Studying Earlier High-Profile Murder

    Yugcharan News | 07 July 2026

The investigation into the murder of Pune businessman Ketan Agarwal has taken a significant turn, with police claiming that the accused allegedly studied details of an earlier high-profile murder case to avoid making similar mistakes while planning the crime. Investigators believe the accused carried out extensive online research, created multiple alibis, and meticulously planned every stage of the alleged murder before executing it.

The case has drawn nationwide attention due to its alleged resemblance to the widely discussed Raja Raghuvanshi murder case. However, police officials maintain that while there are certain similarities between the two incidents, the circumstances, planning, and execution differ considerably.

According to investigators, the primary accused, Siya Goyal, along with her alleged accomplice and boyfriend, Chetan Chaudhary, is believed to have carefully examined publicly available reports related to the Raja Raghuvanshi case before allegedly plotting the murder of her fiancé, Ketan Agarwal.

Officials involved in the investigation stated that digital evidence recovered during the probe suggests the accused researched various aspects of the earlier case and allegedly attempted to avoid investigative mistakes that had led to arrests in that incident.

    Investigation Uncovers Detailed Planning

Police officials claim the murder was not a spontaneous act but the result of careful planning over an extended period.

During the investigation, officers reportedly analyzed mobile phones, digital records, travel details, and statements of individuals connected to the accused. According to investigators, these findings indicate that multiple steps were allegedly taken to create an impression that Ketan Agarwal's death was accidental.

Initially, the incident appeared to be a tragic accident after the businessman reportedly fell into a gorge during a trek near Lohagad Fort in Maharashtra. However, investigators became suspicious after examining the location and circumstances surrounding the fall.

Police officials stated that certain inconsistencies in statements and physical evidence prompted them to pursue a more detailed investigation.

    Digital Evidence Plays Crucial Role

Investigators claim that one of the biggest breakthroughs came after examining the browsing history on a mobile phone allegedly belonging to Siya Goyal.

According to police sources, the device contained searches related to the Raja Raghuvanshi murder case, which had received widespread media coverage earlier this year.

Officials also claimed that investigators found internet searches concerning police procedures, women's legal rights after arrest, and information regarding the treatment of female prisoners while in police custody.

Authorities believe these searches indicate that the accused may have anticipated legal consequences well before the alleged crime took place.

A second mobile phone recovered during the investigation has been sent for forensic examination. Investigators hope the device will provide additional evidence regarding communication, planning, and preparation before the alleged murder.

    Police Allege Strong Premeditation

According to officials associated with the investigation, the case reflects a high degree of premeditation.

Police believe the accused allegedly planned travel routes, established alibis, and coordinated movements in a manner intended to delay suspicion and complicate the investigation.

Investigators further claim that sustained interrogation eventually helped them reconstruct the sequence of events leading up to Ketan Agarwal's death.

Officials clarified that while statements made during police custody have limited evidentiary value in court, they often assist investigators in locating independent evidence, digital records, forensic material, and witness testimony.

The investigation is now focusing on strengthening the case through scientific evidence rather than relying solely on custodial statements.

    Similarities With Earlier Murder Case

The investigation has inevitably drawn comparisons with the Raja Raghuvanshi murder case, where investigators had alleged that the victim was killed after being pushed from a cliff.

Police, however, emphasize that although both incidents involve victims allegedly falling from elevated locations, the methods adopted in the two cases are not identical.

According to investigators, evidence suggests that both accused in the Ketan Agarwal case allegedly participated in pushing the victim together.

Officials believe this was allegedly done to ensure that the victim fell into the gorge, as investigators suspect a single individual may not have been able to overpower him alone.

These findings remain part of the ongoing investigation and will ultimately be examined during judicial proceedings.

    Motive Still Under Investigation

Police officials believe multiple factors may have contributed to the alleged crime.

Investigators have indicated that personal relationships, family expectations, emotional pressure, and social circumstances are all being examined as possible motives behind the incident.

Officials stated that the investigation does not point to a single trigger but rather a combination of circumstances that may have influenced the accused's alleged actions.

Police have refrained from drawing final conclusions regarding motive, stating that further evidence and forensic analysis will help establish the complete sequence of events.

    Family Continues to Seek Justice

The victim's family has consistently maintained that Ketan Agarwal's death was not an accident and demanded a thorough investigation from the very beginning.

Their insistence reportedly encouraged investigators to examine the case more closely instead of treating it as an accidental fall.

Police officials have acknowledged that several inconsistencies noticed during the initial inquiry also prompted them to continue investigating beyond the preliminary findings.

As the investigation progressed, forensic analysis, witness statements, and digital evidence allegedly strengthened the case against the accused.

No Official Admission of Guilt in Court

Authorities have clarified that although investigators have gathered substantial evidence during the probe, the legal process remains ongoing.

Both accused are currently in judicial custody, and the matter will proceed before the appropriate court.

Under Indian law, every accused person is presumed innocent unless proven guilty beyond reasonable doubt in a court of law.

Police officials have stated that further forensic examination of electronic devices, digital communications, and technical evidence will continue in the coming weeks.

Experts Highlight Growing Role of Digital Forensics

Legal experts say the investigation demonstrates the increasingly important role of digital evidence in modern criminal investigations.

Mobile phones, internet searches, messaging applications, location records, and forensic analysis now form critical components of police investigations, often helping authorities reconstruct timelines and establish links between suspects and alleged criminal activities.

Investigators across the country have increasingly relied on digital footprints to corroborate witness statements and physical evidence, particularly in complex homicide cases.

    Investigation Continues

The Pune Police continue to investigate every aspect of the case while awaiting additional forensic reports that may provide further clarity regarding the planning and execution of the alleged murder.

Authorities have indicated that supplementary evidence may be presented before the court as the investigation progresses.

The case has once again sparked discussions about the influence of widely publicized criminal cases, the role of digital evidence in solving crimes, and the importance of meticulous investigations in ensuring justice.

As legal proceedings continue, investigators remain focused on collecting scientifically verifiable evidence to support their findings, while the final determination of guilt or innocence will rest with the judiciary after examining all evidence presented before the court.
