Bombay High Court Grants Bail to Hany Babu After Over 5 Years in Jail

The Bombay High Court on Thursday granted bail to Delhi University professor Hany Babu, who has been in custody for more than five years and seven months in the Bhima Koregaon case.

A Division Bench of Justices AS Gadkari and Ranjitsinha R. Bhonsale rejected the NIA’s request to stay the order, noting the prolonged incarceration.

Babu will be released upon submitting a ₹1 lakh bail bond with sureties. He was arrested in July 2020 under UAPA for alleged Maoist links and conspiracy claims. His bail plea, previously rejected by trial and High Court courts, was revived due to delays in the trial and lack of progress on discharge applications.
