New Delhi: Shehzad Poonawalla, one of the Bharatiya Janata Party’s prominent national spokespersons and a familiar face in television political debates, has resigned from the party, citing pressing financial and personal circumstances. Poonawalla announced his decision on Monday and said he had once again requested the BJP leadership to relieve him of his responsibilities as national spokesperson and from the party’s active primary membership.

The resignation marks a significant development in Poonawalla’s political career, particularly because of his high-profile role as one of the BJP’s public representatives in national television debates. His decision also comes after he had initially submitted his resignation to the party on July 30. According to his statement, the BJP had not accepted the resignation at that time and had asked him to reconsider his decision.
