Police investigating a sexual harassment case in Bihar’s Jamui district have arrested the father of one of the accused after discovering that he was allegedly wanted in connection with a double-murder case dating back to 2003.

The development came after police arrested Nandan Yadav, one of the accused in a recent case involving the alleged groping and assault of a Class 10 student and his minor female friend in Jamui. During the verification of Nandan Yadav’s criminal antecedents, investigators found that his father, Ganori Yadav, was wanted in connection with the killing of two brothers more than two decades ago.

According to police, Ganori Yadav had been on the run for over 20 years. He was subsequently arrested and sent to judicial custody.

The 2003 murder case relates to the deaths of DP Yadav and Pune Yadav, who were allegedly killed on April 3, 2003, in Pratappur village in Jamui. The killings were reportedly linked to a business dispute. The mother of the two victims had named Ganori Yadav as an accused in the case.

His arrest followed a review of records conducted as part of the investigation into his son's alleged involvement in the recent Jamui incident.

Investigation Into Groping Case Reveals Older Criminal Case

The discovery of Ganori Yadav's alleged involvement in the old murder case came during the police investigation following the arrest of Nandan Yadav.

Nandan was among those accused of allegedly assaulting a Class 10 boy and groping his minor female friend on a road in the Jamui area. The case has attracted considerable attention after details of the incident emerged and several people were arrested.

Police have arrested five people in connection with the groping case, while two minors have also been detained, according to the report.

Nandan Yadav was later shot in the leg during an encounter after police alleged that he attempted to escape custody. He was subsequently taken to hospital for treatment.

It was during this process that police came across information concerning Ganori Yadav, who had allegedly remained absconding in the 2003 double-murder case.

The two brothers were allegedly murdered following a dispute connected with business. Their mother subsequently named Ganori Yadav as an accused in the case.

Residents of the area have also raised concerns about alleged harassment and the presence of anti-social elements around Madwa mountain.

A local resident, identified as Aman, told NDTV that groups from surrounding villages allegedly gathered near the area and that women visiting the location had faced harassment.

He also referred to an earlier incident in which a boy was allegedly assaulted while visiting the mountain with a friend.

Such accounts from residents form part of the broader context surrounding concerns about safety in the area, although individual allegations require verification by the authorities.

The recent case has consequently drawn attention not only to the arrests but also to the need for investigation into the circumstances surrounding incidents reported from the locality.

Earlier Sexual Violence Case In Jamui

The latest incident comes months after another case of alleged sexual violence in Jamui attracted attention following the circulation of a video on social media.

In June, a video allegedly showing sexual violence against a girl in the district went viral. According to the report, two men from the victim's village allegedly kidnapped her, subjected her to sexual violence and circulated a video of the incident on social media.

The accused in that case were arrested and later released on bail.

The recurrence of cases involving allegations of sexual violence and the circulation of videos has intensified attention on law enforcement and the safety of women and minors in parts of the district.
