CBSE Digital Evaluation Platform Faces Scrutiny Amid Student Complaints and Technical Concerns

The digital evaluation platform introduced for the Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE) examinations has come under public scrutiny following complaints from students regarding alleged discrepancies in scanned answer sheets, portal-related glitches, and concerns over the newly implemented on-screen marking system.

The controversy intensified after several students and parents raised issues on social media platforms, claiming that uploaded answer sheets were either blurred, mismatched, or inaccessible through the portal. The issue has sparked debate around the rollout of large-scale digital examination infrastructure and the preparedness of systems handling millions of student records across the country.

Responding to the concerns, officials from Hyderabad-based technology company Coempt Edu Teck, which is associated with the evaluation platform, stated that the overall system had functioned successfully and that the complaints represented only isolated incidents rather than widespread technical failure.

    Company Says Complaints Were “Limited”

VSN Raju, Chief Executive Officer of Coempt Edu Teck, addressed the allegations in media interactions and maintained that the platform was largely functioning without major disruption.

According to Raju, reports suggesting large-scale system failure were inaccurate. He stated that the complaints received so far represented “one or two cases” and described them as exceptional situations rather than evidence of a systemic problem.

He further claimed that the digital evaluation process had operated successfully overall and that students who applied to access their answer booklets would receive them in due course. However, he did not provide a specific timeline regarding the pending requests.

The CBSE has also reportedly acknowledged concerns regarding blurred scanned copies and stated that related issues are being addressed through official channels.

    Concerns Over Swapped Answer Sheets

One of the most discussed complaints involved a student who reportedly received an answer sheet that allegedly did not belong to him. The incident triggered widespread discussion online and raised questions regarding scanning accuracy and data handling procedures.

Addressing the matter, Raju stated that preliminary findings suggested the issue may have resulted from human error during the scanning process rather than any technological malfunction within the software platform itself.

According to him, the company had identified the location and personnel involved in the scanning activity and had launched an internal investigation into the incident. He stressed that there was no indication of technical failure within the system architecture.

The company also stated that it intends to study the issue further to prevent similar situations in future examination cycles.

    Allegations of Security Vulnerabilities

The evaluation platform also came under attention after claims surfaced online regarding alleged security vulnerabilities. Reports referred to statements made by a young ethical hacker who claimed to have accessed parts of the system and identified security weaknesses.

Responding to those allegations, Coempt Edu Teck clarified that its primary server handling CBSE-related work had not been compromised.

Raju stated that the server allegedly accessed was an internal testing environment used for dummy or trial operations and not connected to live student examination data. According to the company, the testing server had public accessibility for development-related purposes and did not contain operational CBSE information.

The clarification came amid growing public concern about cybersecurity standards in educational infrastructure, especially systems dealing with examination records and student data.

    Questions Raised Over System Rollout

The rollout of CBSE’s on-screen marking system has also prompted debate regarding whether sufficient testing and pilot exercises were conducted before nationwide implementation.

Some reports had suggested that only limited trial runs were conducted before the platform was launched earlier this year. However, Coempt Edu Teck denied these claims and stated that multiple dry runs involving teachers and evaluators had taken place across different regions beginning in January.

According to company officials, tens of thousands of faculty members reportedly participated in trial evaluations to test the platform’s functionality and workflow before full-scale deployment.

The company argued that the system underwent extensive preparation and that claims suggesting inadequate testing were misleading.

Tender Process and Contract Award Under Discussion

Public attention has also turned toward the process through which the digital evaluation contract was awarded. Reports indicated that the final phase of the tender process for the CBSE evaluation platform was conducted in late 2025.

According to publicly discussed documents, multiple firms participated in the bidding process, with Coempt Edu Teck and another major technology company reportedly meeting the technical criteria.

Following criticism raised by political figures and social media users, the CBSE defended its procurement process and stated that all procedures and protocols were followed appropriately while selecting the agency for the project.

The board reportedly clarified that the request for proposal process began months before the implementation announcement and was carried out according to established guidelines.

    Past Controversies Revisited

The renewed scrutiny has also led to discussions surrounding a previous examination controversy linked to Telangana’s intermediate examination results in 2019.

At that time, widespread concern had emerged after a large number of students reportedly failed the examination, leading to public protests and legal proceedings. The technology company involved in that project later changed its corporate identity to Coempt Edu Tech Private Limited.

Addressing questions regarding the name change, Raju stated that the transition was transparent and unrelated to the earlier controversy. He denied allegations that the rebranding was intended to distance the company from past criticism.

He also pointed out that judicial proceedings related to the Telangana examination issue had concluded without findings establishing large-scale wrongdoing by the company.

According to legal observations cited during those proceedings, only a small percentage of evaluated cases reportedly involved correction-related issues compared to the total number of students assessed.

Students and Parents Demand Greater Transparency

Despite official clarifications, concerns continue among students and parents regarding the transparency and reliability of digital evaluation systems.

Many students have taken to social media demanding faster access to answer sheets, clearer grievance redressal mechanisms, and independent verification processes where discrepancies are reported.

Education experts believe that while digital evaluation can improve efficiency and reduce logistical burdens, such systems require strong safeguards, robust technical infrastructure, and transparent accountability measures to maintain public trust.

The growing dependence on technology in examination management has also increased expectations regarding data accuracy, cybersecurity, and quick resolution of technical complaints.

    Experts Call for Balanced Review

Academic observers say the situation highlights the challenges involved in transitioning from traditional paper-based evaluation systems to large-scale digital assessment platforms.

While some experts argue that isolated errors are inevitable in systems processing millions of answer sheets, others believe educational authorities must ensure rigorous oversight due to the high stakes involved in board examinations.

Calls have also emerged for independent technical audits and detailed public communication from examination authorities to reassure students and families.

As investigations and clarifications continue, the controversy surrounding the CBSE digital evaluation platform has reignited broader conversations around technology adoption, accountability, and transparency in India’s education system.

For now, students awaiting clarification on their answer sheets and examination records continue to closely monitor responses from both the CBSE and the technology company handling the evaluation infrastructure.
