Delhi Records Over 2 Lakh Respiratory Cases in Three Years Amid Severe Air Pollution

New data presented in Parliament has revealed that Delhi’s deteriorating air quality has led to a sharp rise in respiratory illnesses, with 2,04,758 emergency cases reported between 2022 and 2024 across six major central government hospitals in the city.

According to the Ministry of Health and Family Welfare, these hospitals recorded a significant number of patients suffering from severe breathing difficulties, directly linked to prolonged exposure to polluted air. The figures highlight the growing health impact of toxic air, which continues to affect residents across all age groups.

Delhi’s air quality has consistently remained in the “poor” to “severe” category during the winter months, increasing the risk of asthma attacks, bronchitis, and other respiratory complications. Medical experts have repeatedly warned that long-term exposure can lead to chronic health issues and higher hospital admissions.

The latest data underscores the urgent need for stronger pollution control measures and improved public health interventions to protect citizens, especially vulnerable populations such as children and the elderly.
