    European Leaders Back Peacekeeping Force as Key to Ukraine Security

    European leaders have agreed that any future decisions on Ukraine’s territorial issues can only be taken after strong security guarantees are firmly in place. These guarantees, they said, should include a European-led multinational peacekeeping force supported by the United States.

    The consensus emerged after a meeting of European leaders in Berlin aimed at supporting ongoing peace discussions between U.S. and Ukrainian officials. A joint statement stressed that Ukraine must retain a strong military force to deter future aggression.

    Leaders also proposed a coordinated multinational mission to help protect Ukraine’s airspace, maritime routes, and rebuild its defence capabilities. In addition, a U.S.-led mechanism to monitor ceasefire violations was suggested to ensure early warning against any renewed attacks.

     

    The statement underlined that decisions related to territory must be made by Ukraine itself, once credible security arrangements are operational.
