Monsoon Update: Southwest Monsoon Advances, Rain Likely Across Delhi, Bihar and Jharkhand in Coming Days

    Yugcharan News / June 26, 2026

The southwest monsoon has gained momentum across central India, raising hopes of widespread rainfall in several northern and eastern states over the next few days. According to the latest weather forecasts, favourable atmospheric conditions are helping the monsoon move further north, bringing the possibility of rain and thunderstorms to Delhi, Bihar, Jharkhand and neighbouring regions.

Weather experts say multiple weather systems are currently active, strengthening monsoon circulation across the country. These include the seasonal monsoon trough, a western disturbance and several cyclonic circulations over northern and eastern India. Together, these systems are supplying abundant moisture, increasing cloud formation and enhancing rainfall activity over large parts of the country.

The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has stated that the southwest monsoon has already advanced into parts of Gujarat, Madhya Pradesh, Chhattisgarh, Jharkhand and Bihar. Conditions remain favourable for the monsoon to progress further into additional parts of Uttar Pradesh, Uttarakhand and adjoining regions during the next few days.

For Delhi-NCR, forecasters expect generally cloudy skies accompanied by thunderstorms, gusty winds and light to moderate showers over the coming days. While widespread heavy rainfall is not expected immediately, intermittent rain could provide relief from the prevailing heat and humidity, with temperatures likely to witness a slight decline.

In eastern India, Bihar and Jharkhand are also expected to experience increasing rainfall activity as the monsoon advances. Light to moderate rain is likely in many districts, while isolated areas could receive heavier spells depending on local weather conditions. The expected showers may offer relief after prolonged hot and humid weather experienced in several parts of the region.

According to weather forecasts, moderate to heavy rainfall is likely over Konkan and Goa, coastal Karnataka and parts of Kerala. Light to moderate showers are also expected across Telangana, Andhra Pradesh, Vidarbha, Marathwada, Chhattisgarh, Madhya Pradesh and southern Odisha as monsoon activity strengthens.

Meteorologists have advised residents in areas expecting thunderstorms to remain cautious, especially during periods of lightning and strong winds. Commuters are also advised to monitor local weather updates, as heavy rain in isolated locations could lead to temporary waterlogging and traffic disruptions.

With the southwest monsoon steadily progressing across the country, rainfall activity is expected to expand further across north India over the next several days. The advancing monsoon is likely to improve weather conditions in many regions while providing much-needed moisture for agriculture and easing the intense summer heat in several states.
