    Rapid Urban Expansion Pushes Mumbai’s Water Demand Higher: CM Shinde

    Maharashtra Chief Minister Eknath Shinde has warned that Mumbai’s daily water requirement is rising sharply due to rapid urban growth, new infrastructure projects, and increasing migration into the city. Speaking at the winter session in Nagpur, Shinde said that Mumbai is already receiving a partially inadequate water supply, with demand frequently surpassing available capacity. Major projects like the coastal road, metro corridors, and large-scale real estate development are further accelerating consumption. The government is now pushing for long-term solutions, including expanding storage capacity, upgrading pipelines, and fast-tracking new water sources to prevent future shortages. Officials say ensuring a stable supply is crucial as Mumbai continues its transformation into a larger metropolitan hub.
