The rupee appreciated 24 paise to 89.96 against the U.S. dollar in early trade on Friday, supported by corporate dollar inflows and easing crude oil prices. Forex traders said the recovery followed recent record lows and was aided by likely intervention from the Reserve Bank of India.

At the interbank foreign exchange market, the rupee opened at 90.19 and later touched 89.96, compared with its previous close of 90.20. Brent crude was trading lower near $59 per barrel, while the dollar index edged up slightly to 98.46. Domestic equities also advanced, with the Sensex and Nifty posting gains in early trade.
