Vijay Hazare Trophy 2025: Kohli and Rohit Headline Star-Studded National One-Day Tournament

The Vijay Hazare Trophy is set to begin on December 24, 2025, with the participation of several leading Indian cricketers adding significant attention to the domestic one-day championship. The presence of senior players such as Virat Kohli and Rohit Sharma, along with other established names, has heightened interest in this year’s edition of the tournament.

Alongside Kohli and Rohit, the competition will feature prominent players including Rishabh Pant, Shubman Gill, Suryakumar Yadav and Abhishek Sharma. Despite the depth of talent on display, Kohli and Rohit remain the central figures due to their stature and experience at the international level.

Their participation follows the Board of Control for Cricket in India’s decision to make it mandatory for centrally contracted players to play at least two matches in the Vijay Hazare Trophy. For Kohli, this marks a return to the tournament after a gap of 15 years, while Rohit’s appearance underlines the continued emphasis on domestic cricket performances.

Rohit Sharma is scheduled to represent Mumbai in their opening two matches against Sikkim and Uttarakhand, to be played in Jaipur on December 24 and 26. Virat Kohli, who has been training in Mumbai, is expected to turn out for Delhi, though the exact matches he will play are yet to be confirmed. Delhi begin their Elite Group D campaign against Andhra, followed by a fixture against Gujarat, with venues in Bengaluru.

The tournament also carries significance for several other players. Rishabh Pant will be aiming to strengthen his case in limited-overs cricket after being out of ODI and T20I action since August 2024. Shubman Gill, named to lead India in the upcoming ODI series against New Zealand, will represent Punjab as he returns to domestic competition.

Attention will also be on emerging bowlers, particularly fast bowlers, as selectors track potential additions to India’s pace resources. Players such as Gurjapneet Singh, Gurnoor Brar, Yudhvir Singh, Anuj Thakral and Sakib Hussain are among those expected to be closely observed during the tournament.

Matches in the Vijay Hazare Trophy will begin at 9 a.m., with games being played across multiple venues. The tournament is expected to serve as a key platform for both senior internationals and emerging players ahead of upcoming national and international assignments.
