Delhi Air Quality Deteriorates, AQI Reaches Severe Levels.

Air pollution in the national capital worsened sharply on Sunday as Delhi’s Air Quality Index (AQI) moved into the ‘severe’ category, touching 459, according to data from the Central Pollution Control Board (CPCB). The city remained enveloped in dense smog overnight, causing breathing discomfort for many residents.

As per CPCB standards, an AQI reading above 400 is classified as ‘severe’, indicating extremely poor air conditions. Visibility was reduced in several areas due to the thick haze, adding to the discomfort caused by the polluted air.

Weather conditions also contributed to the situation, with the minimum temperature recorded at 8.2 degrees Celsius, slightly below the seasonal average. The India Meteorological Department (IMD) said relative humidity stood at 100% in the morning, while the maximum temperature was expected to be around 24 degrees Celsius.

In response to the worsening air quality, the Delhi Directorate of Education directed schools to conduct classes for students up to Class IX and XI in hybrid mode. Meanwhile, the Commission for Air Quality Management (CAQM) implemented Stage-IV measures under the Graded Response Action Plan (GRAP) with immediate effect across Delhi-NCR to address the escalating pollution levels.
