Congress Plans Ramlila Maidan Rally on December 14 Over Alleged Electoral Irregularities

The Congress has announced a major public rally at Ramlila Maidan in New Delhi on December 14 as part of its campaign raising concerns over what it describes as “vote chori” during elections. The party aims to press its demand for accountability from the government and the Election Commission, alleging coordinated actions that undermine the electoral process.

Senior party leaders, including Congress president Mallikarjun Kharge and former party chief Rahul Gandhi, are expected to address the gathering. Several prominent leaders such as Priyanka Gandhi Vadra, K.C. Venugopal, Jairam Ramesh and Sachin Pilot are also slated to participate, while former party president Sonia Gandhi is likely to attend.

Ahead of the rally, Congress leaders will assemble at the party’s headquarters, Indira Bhawan, before proceeding together to the venue.

Party general secretary (organisation) K.C. Venugopal said the Congress has collected nearly 5.5 crore signatures from across the country opposing alleged irregularities in the electoral system. He stated that the mobilisation is intended to generate wider public awareness, and the party plans to submit a memorandum along with the signatures to the President.

The rally comes in the wake of sharp exchanges in Parliament over election-related reforms, including the special intensive revision of electoral rolls. While Opposition leaders have questioned the process, the government has dismissed the allegations, leading to a heated political debate.
