Delhi Air Quality Remains ‘Very Poor’; Govt Forms Expert Panel to Tackle Pollution

Delhi continues to struggle with severe air pollution, with the city’s Air Quality Index (AQI) staying in the ‘very poor’ category. Data from 40 monitoring stations shows that 31 stations recorded very poor air quality in the evening, with Nehru Nagar reporting the highest AQI at 369. Mundka recorded the worst level at 387.

The Delhi government has set up an expert group to advise on air pollution mitigation. The panel will provide evidence-based guidance on prevention, control, and long-term management of air quality. It will also suggest sector-specific interventions, emerging technologies, and policy reforms to address pollution caused by both human activities and natural factors.

The expert group, formed for an initial six months, will meet at least once a month either in person or virtually. Its role includes monitoring ongoing pollution control programs, providing independent science-backed advice, and recommending short-term emergency actions and long-term structural reforms to improve Delhi’s air quality.
