DGCA Sends Show-Cause Notice to IndiGo CEO Over Flight Disruptions

The Directorate General of Civil Aviation (DGCA) on Saturday issued a show-cause notice to IndiGo CEO Pieter Elbers following a series of flight cancellations and delays across India that caused widespread inconvenience to passengers.

According to the regulator, the disruptions stemmed from IndiGo’s failure to make adequate arrangements required for the revised Flight Duty Time Limit (FDTL) scheme, leading to unreliable operations. The notice stated that Elbers, as CEO, did not ensure the timely management needed for smooth functioning and failed to provide necessary facilities and information to passengers.

The DGCA has directed Elbers to respond within 24 hours explaining why enforcement action should not be taken under the Aircraft Rules and Civil Aviation Requirements. The notice adds that failure to submit a reply within the given time frame will result in an ex-parte decision.
