Ex-Pentagon Official Says Trump Deserves Nobel for ‘Uniting’ India and Russia

Former Pentagon official Michael Rubin has said that Donald Trump “deserves a Nobel Prize” — not for peace efforts, but for inadvertently bringing India and Russia closer. Rubin made the remark while commenting on Russian President Vladimir Putin’s two-day visit to India, which further strengthened ties between the two nations.

Rubin, speaking to ANI, said Russia viewed the visit very positively and noted that the honours given to Putin in India were unmatched. He argued that India’s growing closeness with Russia was partly driven by dissatisfaction with Trump’s treatment of Prime Minister Narendra Modi and India in general.

Rubin said Trump sees the situation as validation of his own narrative, while many Americans view it as a result of what he called Trump’s “gross incompetence” in handling US-India relations.

He criticised Trump for undermining the strategic partnership with India, suggesting that decisions were influenced by flattery or alleged bribery attempts from Pakistan, Turkey and Qatar.

Rubin also said the US should stop “lecturing India” over buying Russian fuel, noting that India needs energy as the world’s most populous country and a rising economy. He added that the US itself has bought from Russia when necessary, calling Washington’s stance hypocritical.

Rubin concluded that unless the US can offer cheaper and adequate alternatives, it should not question India’s fuel purchases, as India must prioritise its own security and interests.
