H-1B Visa Holders Stranded in India After Interview Delays

Hundreds of H-1B visa holders who returned to India to renew their U.S. work permits have been stranded after their visa interview appointments were postponed to next year. The delays follow the U.S. State Department’s implementation of a new social media vetting policy, according to reports.

Interviews scheduled between December 15 and 26 have reportedly been pushed to March 2026. Several law firms said many of their clients are affected, raising concerns about prolonged stays outside the United States. The U.S. Embassy in India has advised applicants to attend only their rescheduled appointments, warning that arrival on earlier dates will lead to denial of entry.
