I.I.M.U.N. Switzerland Study Tour 2.O: 50 students get first-hand experience of Global Affairs

Week-long programme brings students face to face with top UN leadership, international institutions and scientific innovation in Geneva and beyond

Geneva,: India’s International Movement to Unite Nations (I.I.M.U.N.), a student led non-profit organization, has recently concluded second edition of its Switzerland Study Tour that brought together 50 students cutting across various socio economic strata from across India. The study tour, organized between 18 to 24 October offered selected students an immersive experience in international diplomacy, multilateral cooperation, science, innovation and global leadership.

At a time where the world is only getting more fragmented, the tour centred in Geneva, was designed to take students beyond the classroom and into the spaces where global conversations take place, international challenges are addressed and decisions with far-reaching consequences are shaped. At its heart is an opportunity for young Indians to engage directly with the people and institutions that influence the world.

A defining highlight of the programme was that the I.I.M.U.N. Study Tour opened at the Palais des Nations which was attended by distinguished guests, including Ms. Tatiana Valovaya, Director-General of the United Nations Office at Geneva; H.E. Ms. Tako Ajungla Jamir, Deputy Permanent Representative of India to the United Nations in Geneva; Dr. Gaya Gamhewage, former Director of Communications at the World Health Organization; Mr. Sameer Chauhan, Director of the United Nations International Computing Centre (UNICC); and Mr. Javier Gutierrez, Senior External Relations Counsellor at the World Trade Organization.

Mr Rishabh Shah, Founder of I.I.M.U.N., said: “Education must go beyond preparing young people to answer questions in an examination; it must prepare them to ask the right questions of the world. Our endeavour through the Switzerland Study Tour is to give young Indians the exposure to think more deeply, question more confidently and imagine a future in which they can contribute meaningfully to the world.”

Two days of the tour were dedicated to the sessions at Palais des Nations & ILO alongwith a tour of the United Nations offices in Geneva and a visit to the International Red Cross and Red Crescent Museum.

Moving beyond how the world functions, a visit to CERN, one of the world's foremost centres for particle physics, offered students an opportunity to engage with the frontiers of scientific exploration and understand how international collaboration advances humanity's collective knowledge.

The delegation also visited Lindt Home of Chocolate, providing a different perspective on innovation, enterprise, craftsmanship and the evolution of a globally recognised Swiss brand.

Together, these experiences brought students into contact with diverse fields of human endeavour, from international relations and public policy to fundamental science and business. The tour aimed at helping students connect with what they learn in academic settings with the institutions, people and ideas shaping the world around them.

The second edition builds on I.I.M.U.N.'s broader commitment to creating opportunities for young Indians to experience the world beyond textbooks and conventional academic settings.
