India Completes Software Updates on Nearly Half of A320 Fleet, Says DGCA

    New Delhi | November 29, 2025 — Yugcharan News

The Directorate General of Civil Aviation (DGCA) has confirmed that software upgrades have been completed on 189 out of 338 A320 family aircraft operated by Indian airlines. The update is being carried out to address a potential issue affecting flight control systems.

According to DGCA data available till 10 a.m. on Saturday, more than half of the affected aircraft have now undergone the mandatory software fix. The remaining work is expected to be completed by 5:29 a.m. on November 30, as directed by the regulator.

    No Cancellations, Minor Delays Reported

Sources told PTI that while airlines have avoided flight cancellations, some services are running delayed by 60–90 minutes due to the ongoing software installation and ground checks.

The update became necessary after Airbus informed global operators about a technical concern where high solar radiation could temporarily affect data crucial to flight controls on certain A320 aircraft. European regulators issued an emergency directive soon after, prompting India’s DGCA to take immediate action.

    Indian Airlines Carrying Out Fixes

The A320 family — consisting of A320 ceo/neo and A321 ceo/neo aircraft — forms a major part of the fleets of IndiGo, Air India, and Air India Express. All three carriers have begun implementing the required upgrades across their aircraft.

On Saturday, DGCA issued its own Airworthiness Directive, instructing Indian operators to ensure the update is completed without delay.

    Global Alert Triggered the Action

The move follows a worldwide alert by Airbus and a corresponding Emergency Airworthiness Directive from the European Union Aviation Safety Agency (EASA). Airlines internationally are conducting similar updates to maintain operational safety and avoid disruptions.
