Karnataka High Court Restores ‘Yezdi’ Trademark to Boman Irani and Classic Legends

    Bengaluru | November 29, 2025 — Yugcharan News

The Karnataka High Court has restored the iconic “Yezdi” trademark to Boman R. Irani of the Rustomjee Group and Classic Legends Pvt. Ltd., ruling that Ideal Jawa (India) Ltd. had effectively abandoned the mark due to prolonged non-use.

A Division Bench observed that Ideal Jawa failed to renew the registration for more than 15 years, resulting in the trademark falling into the public domain. “Once a trademark is abandoned, it becomes available for use by others, who may then acquire superior rights over the previous owner,” the court noted.

Classic Legends — a company founded by Boman Irani in partnership with Mahindra & Mahindra — has been working to revive the legacy motorcycle brand. The ruling clarifies that the earlier registered owner, Ideal Jawa, no longer holds any enforceable claim over the name or device associated with “Yezdi.”

The court also remarked that the failure of the Official Liquidator to renew the trademark or take timely action contributed to the abandonment.

“Yezdi,” once a popular motorcycle brand in India, has a strong nostalgic value among enthusiasts. The restoration of trademark rights is expected to support the ongoing revival efforts under Classic Legends.
