    Yugcharan News / 13 May 2026

A series of major political, education and governance-related developments unfolded across India on Tuesday, drawing national attention. From a crucial floor test in the Tamil Nadu Assembly to the cancellation of the NEET-UG 2026 examination amid allegations of a paper leak, several events dominated public and political discourse throughout the day. In addition, the declaration of the CBSE Class 12 results and reports regarding austerity measures initiated at the Centre also remained in focus.

Tamil Nadu Government Wins Trust Vote Amid Political Tensions

The newly formed Tamil Nadu government led by actor-turned-politician C. Joseph Vijay successfully passed its first major legislative test after securing majority support during a confidence motion in the State Assembly.

According to proceedings in the Assembly, the government secured 144 votes in favour of the trust motion, while 22 legislators opposed it. Five members abstained during the voting process. The development marked a significant milestone for the newly established administration, which came to power following a closely contested Assembly election earlier this year.

The confidence vote witnessed dramatic scenes inside the House. Members belonging to the principal Opposition party staged a walkout before voting commenced. Opposition leader Udhayanidhi Stalin criticised the ruling dispensation during his speech and raised questions regarding the support extended by rebel legislators from a rival regional party.

Political observers noted that support from dissident lawmakers played a crucial role in strengthening the government’s position during the vote. The rebel faction, reportedly led by senior leaders including S.P. Velumani, publicly backed the ruling alliance during the proceedings.

The Speaker allowed representatives from multiple parties to speak during the debate, resulting in heated exchanges between rival camps. Legislators from Left parties, Congress, VCK, IUML and several independent or expelled members extended support to the government.

Meanwhile, leaders from the Opposition alleged that political negotiations and internal divisions within the rival party influenced the outcome of the trust vote. Some leaders also questioned recent appointments made by the government, including the appointment of a political aide reportedly associated with astrology-related consultations.

Despite criticism, Chief Minister Vijay defended his administration and assured the Assembly that welfare schemes introduced by previous governments would continue uninterrupted. He also stated that his administration would function in a “secular and inclusive manner” while prioritising governance and development.

The Assembly session also witnessed discussions on the cancellation of the NEET-UG examination and issues related to Tamil Nadu fishermen detained by Sri Lankan authorities. Several legislators urged the government to continue social welfare and education-related schemes introduced in earlier years.

Political analysts believe the successful floor test provides temporary stability to the government, though internal political realignments within opposition parties may continue to shape Tamil Nadu politics in the coming months.

NEET-UG 2026 Cancelled Following Alleged Paper Leak Investigation

In a major development affecting lakhs of medical aspirants, the National Testing Agency (NTA) cancelled the NEET-UG 2026 examination after allegations emerged regarding a possible question paper leak before the examination.

The examination, which was attended by more than 22 lakh students across the country, came under scrutiny after reports suggested that portions of the question paper had allegedly circulated through digital platforms nearly two days before the test.

Investigative agencies have reportedly launched a nationwide probe into the matter. According to media reports and preliminary findings, the alleged leak network may have operated across multiple states, including Maharashtra, Rajasthan, Haryana and Bihar.

One individual from Maharashtra was detained for questioning by central investigative authorities in connection with the case. Sources familiar with the investigation claimed that digital communication platforms and encrypted messaging applications may have been used to circulate examination material.

Officials associated with the probe reportedly suspect the involvement of a wider organised network. Reports also suggested that several coaching-linked individuals and intermediaries are being questioned as part of the investigation.

Authorities in Rajasthan are said to have made multiple arrests during the probe. Investigators are examining whether leaked material was distributed to select candidates through online PDFs and printed documents before the examination.

The controversy intensified after teachers and subject experts allegedly identified substantial similarities between circulated “guess papers” and the actual examination paper. Following complaints, the matter was escalated to higher authorities, eventually resulting in the cancellation of the national-level examination.

The decision to cancel NEET-UG has triggered widespread concern among students and parents across the country. Many aspirants expressed disappointment over uncertainty regarding fresh examination dates and the impact on admissions.

Medical associations and student groups have also reportedly demanded structural reforms in examination management systems and stronger safeguards against digital malpractice.

Government agencies have assured that the investigation will continue and strict action will be taken against those found involved in any wrongdoing.

CBSE Class 12 Results Declared; Pass Percentage Drops

The Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE) officially declared the Class 12 board examination results for the 2026 academic session on Tuesday.

More than 18 lakh students across Science, Commerce and Humanities streams appeared for the examination this year. According to official figures, the overall pass percentage stood at 85.20%, reflecting a decline compared to previous years.

Educational experts attributed the drop partly to the introduction of a new digital evaluation system known as On-Screen Marking (OSM), which replaced traditional answer-sheet checking methods. Officials stated that the digital evaluation process was introduced to improve transparency, accuracy and efficiency.

Southern regions once again emerged among the top-performing zones in the country. Trivandrum recorded one of the highest pass percentages, while some northern regions witnessed comparatively lower performance indicators.

The board confirmed that over 94,000 students scored above 90%, while more than 17,000 students secured marks exceeding 95%.

CBSE continued its policy of not publishing an official topper list in an effort to reduce unhealthy academic competition and psychological pressure among students.

Students can access digital marksheets through official portals and DigiLocker services. The board also announced that verification, re-evaluation and supplementary examination procedures would begin in the coming days.

Educational institutions and counsellors have urged students to avoid stress and focus on future academic planning, regardless of their scores.

Centre Signals Austerity Measures Amid Economic Concerns

In another significant development, reports indicated that Prime Minister Narendra Modi has initiated discussions around austerity measures within the government machinery.

According to sources cited in multiple reports, the Prime Minister has reportedly directed authorities to reduce the size of official vehicle convoys and encourage fuel-saving practices. Officials familiar with the matter stated that government departments may soon receive guidelines aimed at reducing expenditure and fuel consumption.

The reported measures include encouraging greater use of public transport, carpooling and controlled administrative spending. Sources also suggested that electric vehicles may gradually be integrated into official fleets where feasible.

The move reportedly follows broader concerns regarding fuel consumption and economic pressures arising from global geopolitical instability and rising energy costs.

Officials clarified that any security-related protocols linked to VIP movement would continue to remain in force and no compromise would be made on mandatory safety procedures.

Policy experts believe such symbolic measures are intended to send a broader administrative message promoting resource conservation and fiscal discipline across government departments.

    Political and Public Reactions Continue

The developments throughout the day sparked strong reactions across political circles and social media platforms. Political parties exchanged accusations over governance, alliances and institutional functioning, while students and parents expressed anxiety over examination-related uncertainty.

Analysts believe the coming weeks could remain politically sensitive, particularly in states witnessing coalition negotiations, educational controversies and administrative restructuring.

With investigations continuing in the NEET matter, Assembly dynamics evolving in Tamil Nadu, and education authorities preparing for post-result procedures, the day marked one of the busiest political and administrative news cycles in recent months.
