Munambam Action Council Ends Protest, but Splinter Group Continues Agitation

The Munambam action council has withdrawn its long-running protest after the Kerala High Court partially restored residents’ revenue rights. However, a breakaway group has chosen to continue the agitation independently.

The main protest was officially called off on Sunday—the 415th day of the movement—in the presence of Industries Minister P. Rajeeve and Revenue Minister K. Rajan. According to Fr. Antony Xavier Tharayil, convener of the action council, the decision was made after revenue authorities accepted property tax from residents and resumed issuing possession certificates for their holdings.

Fr. Tharayil added that the protest has been paused for now, but could resume if the commitments made by officials are not fulfilled.

Shortly after the announcement, a dissenting group walked out and launched a separate protest, expressing dissatisfaction with the partial relief and demanding a complete resolution.
