Pakistan Rejects Jaishankar’s Remarks Linking Security Issues to Its Military

Pakistan has strongly criticised External Affairs Minister S. Jaishankar’s recent comments that blamed Pakistan’s military establishment for several of India’s long-standing security challenges. The remarks were made during the HT Leadership Summit in New Delhi.

In a sharp response on Sunday, Pakistan Foreign Office spokesperson Tahir Andrabi said Islamabad “categorically rejects and condemns” the statement, calling it baseless and inflammatory. He asserted that Pakistan’s armed forces and state institutions play a central role in safeguarding national security and accused India of running a targeted propaganda campaign to malign its military.

Andrabi also referred to the May conflict, saying it demonstrated the readiness and responsibility of Pakistani forces in defending the country. He claimed India was attempting to mislead international opinion through false narratives.

During his address, Jaishankar had said many of India’s security issues arise from Pakistan’s military and its support for terror groups. When asked about Operation Sindoor, he stressed that India acts within clear rules and norms, and that every decision is subject to public and institutional accountability. He added that comparing India’s conduct with Pakistan’s “would be doing ourselves an injustice.”

Operation Sindoor, carried out from May 7 to 10 after the Pahalgam attack that killed 26 civilians, targeted terror infrastructure in Pakistan and Pakistan-occupied Kashmir. According to Air Chief Marshal A.P. Singh, the strikes destroyed or damaged at least a dozen Pakistani military aircraft, including several F-16s.
