Akhilesh Yadav Opposes ‘Commercialisation’ of Janeshwar Mishra Park, Urges Public Resistance

    Lucknow | November 30, 2025 — Yugcharan News

Samajwadi Party president Akhilesh Yadav has criticised the Uttar Pradesh government for its reported plan to allow large private weddings and commercial events inside Lucknow’s Janeshwar Mishra Park from January 15, 2026. He warned that such a move could permanently alter the character of one of Asia’s largest urban green spaces.

The 376-acre park, a major recreational and ecological asset in the city, could face significant environmental strain if turned into a venue for high-capacity gatherings, Mr. Yadav said. He expressed concern that local residents might ultimately bear the burden of waste, noise and disruption resulting from frequent private events.

Calling the proposed move a step towards “full commercialisation,” the SP chief appealed for a public campaign by citizens of Lucknow to protect the park’s open spaces and environmental value. He emphasised that the area was created as a public recreational zone and should not be converted into a revenue-generating property.

No official statement has yet been issued by the State government on the concerns raised.
