Bengaluru Daycare Abuse Case: Five Caregivers Booked After Videos Show Toddlers Allegedly Tortured

A shocking case of alleged child abuse at a daycare centre inside the Capgemini campus in Bengaluru has sparked outrage after videos surfaced showing toddlers being subjected to physical and mental abuse. The incident has led to criminal cases against five caregivers, while police and child welfare authorities have launched a detailed investigation into the matter.

According to police, the alleged abuse took place at an on-campus daycare facility located in Brookefield, where children of employees were enrolled. The accused caregivers have been identified as Manjula, Vijayalakshmi, Bhavani, Sindhu and Bindu. They have been booked under relevant provisions of the Juvenile Justice Act and the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita.

The case came to light after several videos, allegedly recorded inside the daycare, were shared with child protection authorities. The footage reportedly showed disturbing incidents in which toddlers, aged between two and three years, were subjected to cruel treatment by the staff responsible for their care.

Investigators said the videos appear to show children being forced to sit inside a front-loading washing machine, locked inside bathrooms as punishment, and sprayed with water using a toilet jet spray. The footage also allegedly captures caregivers threatening children whenever they cried or created any disturbance.

Officials said the complaint was filed by Tilakesh Kumar, a Legal-cum-Probation Officer with the District Child Protection Unit, after he received the videos through WhatsApp. Following the complaint, the HAL Police registered a First Information Report (FIR) on June 29 and immediately began an investigation.

Police sources stated that the videos were allegedly recorded by an employee working at the daycare. Preliminary information suggests the recordings surfaced after a staff member's friend was reportedly dismissed from the facility. Investigators are, however, verifying the source of the videos and the sequence of events before drawing any conclusions.

As part of the investigation, police officers visited the daycare centre, inspected the premises and collected CCTV footage for examination. Investigators are also recording statements from daycare employees, complainants and other witnesses connected to the case.

Authorities have said notices will be issued to all five accused caregivers, directing them to appear before investigators for questioning. Officials are also speaking with parents and guardians of the children enrolled at the daycare to determine whether any of the toddlers had previously shown signs of physical or emotional abuse or had displayed unusual behaviour after returning home.

A senior police officer said the investigation remains ongoing and that every allegation shown in the videos is being carefully verified through forensic examination and witness statements.

Apart from the police investigation, the matter has also reached the Karnataka State Commission for Protection of Child Rights. A separate complaint has been submitted before the Commission seeking its intervention to ensure a thorough inquiry and appropriate action against those found responsible.

Child welfare officials have emphasised that incidents involving children require immediate attention because victims at such a young age are often unable to explain or report abuse themselves. Investigators are therefore relying on available video evidence, CCTV footage, medical observations and statements from parents and staff members.

Following the emergence of the allegations, Capgemini issued an official statement expressing concern over the incident. The company said the health, safety and well-being of employees and their families remain its highest priority. It also confirmed that it is fully cooperating with law enforcement agencies and assisting the authorities in establishing the facts.

As a precautionary measure, the company announced the temporary closure of its Bengaluru on-campus daycare facility until the investigation is completed. The company stated that it would continue to extend all necessary support to the authorities during the inquiry.

The incident has triggered widespread concern about safety standards at daycare centres, particularly those operating within large corporate campuses. Child rights activists have called for stricter monitoring, regular inspections, comprehensive background verification of caregivers and mandatory installation of surveillance systems to ensure children's safety.

Experts say parents often rely on workplace daycare centres because they provide convenience and allow working professionals to remain close to their children during office hours. Incidents like this, they argue, highlight the importance of maintaining rigorous safety protocols and regular oversight of childcare facilities.

Police have clarified that the investigation is still at an early stage and that the authenticity of the videos, along with every allegation contained in them, is being independently verified. Authorities have appealed to the public to avoid speculation while the inquiry is underway.

If the allegations are confirmed during the investigation, the accused caregivers could face serious legal consequences under child protection laws. Officials have assured that every aspect of the case will be thoroughly examined to ensure accountability and justice for the children involved.

The investigation continues, with police expected to analyse digital evidence, review CCTV recordings, question all concerned individuals and submit their findings after completing the inquiry. Meanwhile, the incident has once again brought attention to the need for stronger safeguards and stricter oversight in childcare institutions across the country.
