Congress Plans Ramlila Maidan Rally on December 14 Over Alleged ‘Vote Chori

The Congress has announced a major public rally at Delhi’s Ramlila Maidan on Sunday, December 14, as part of its campaign alleging irregularities in the electoral process. The party says the event is aimed at questioning the role of the Union government and the Election Commission, which it accuses of working together to influence election outcomes.

Senior party leaders, including Congress president Mallikarjun Kharge and former party chief Rahul Gandhi, are expected to address the gathering. Several other prominent leaders such as Priyanka Gandhi Vadra, K.C. Venugopal, Jairam Ramesh and Sachin Pilot are also slated to participate, while Sonia Gandhi is likely to attend the programme.

Ahead of the rally, Congress leaders will assemble at the party’s headquarters, Indira Bhawan, and then proceed collectively to the venue. Party general secretary (organisation) K.C. Venugopal said the Congress has collected nearly 5.5 crore signatures across the country against what it describes as electoral manipulation. He stated that these signatures would be submitted to the President in the form of a memorandum.

The rally follows intense exchanges in the Lok Sabha over election-related issues, including the special intensive revision of electoral rolls. During the debate, the Opposition alleged misuse of institutions, while the government rejected the claims, with Home Minister Amit Shah accusing the Congress of raising objections because it was unable to secure electoral victories through fair means.
