Economic Survey 2025–26 to Be Tabled in Parliament Today: Key Details, Schedule and Where to Watch Live

The Union Government will present the Economic Survey 2025–26 in Parliament on Thursday, January 29, marking a crucial step ahead of the Union Budget. The document, prepared by the Department of Economic Affairs under the Ministry of Finance, provides a comprehensive assessment of India’s economic performance over the past financial year and outlines expectations for the year ahead.

Union Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman is scheduled to table the Economic Survey in both the Lok Sabha and the Rajya Sabha at 11 a.m. during the ongoing Budget Session of Parliament, which began on January 28.

    What Is the Economic Survey?

The Economic Survey serves as the government’s annual review of the country’s economic health. It evaluates key macroeconomic indicators such as growth trends, fiscal position, inflation, employment, external trade, and sectoral performance for the financial year ending March 31, 2026.

In addition to reviewing past performance, the Survey also presents an economic outlook and policy direction that often sets the context for the Union Budget. While it does not announce new policies or tax changes, it provides analytical inputs that guide budgetary decisions.

    Presentation and Briefing Schedule

Following the tabling of the Survey in Parliament, Chief Economic Adviser (CEA) V. Anantha Nageswaran will address the media during a post-presentation briefing. The briefing is expected to highlight major findings, risks to growth, and policy challenges facing the Indian economy in the coming year.

The Budget Session of Parliament is scheduled to continue until April 2, 2026, with discussions on economic policy, budget proposals, and legislative business spread across multiple phases.

    Economic Growth Outlook

According to official estimates cited by government sources, India’s economy is projected to grow at around 7.4 percent in 2025–26, outperforming earlier projections that had placed growth in the range of 6.3 to 6.8 percent. This trend of actual growth exceeding initial estimates has been observed in recent years, supported by domestic consumption, public infrastructure spending, and resilience in services.

The Economic Survey is expected to examine factors such as global economic uncertainty, geopolitical risks, commodity price volatility, and domestic demand conditions while assessing India’s medium-term growth prospects.

    Link with the Union Budget

The Economic Survey precedes the presentation of the Union Budget 2026–27, which Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman will present on February 1, 2026. While the Survey does not include budget announcements, its analysis often provides the intellectual and policy framework for budget priorities.

Issues such as fiscal consolidation, capital expenditure, employment generation, inflation management, and reforms in manufacturing and services are likely to be discussed in detail in the Survey.

Where to Watch the Economic Survey Live

The live presentation of the Economic Survey can be viewed through multiple official platforms:

    • Sansad TV

    • Doordarshan

    • The official Union Budget portal of the Government of India

In addition, live updates and coverage will be available through major news platforms and official government communication channels.

The Ministry of Finance and the Press Information Bureau (PIB) are also expected to stream the event on their verified social media handles, providing access to viewers across digital platforms.

    Downloading the Economic Survey Document

Once the Economic Survey is formally presented in Parliament, the full document will be made available for public access in PDF format. The Survey can be downloaded from the official Union Budget website under the Economic Survey section.

The document is typically released in digital format shortly after the presentation, allowing researchers, policymakers, businesses, and citizens to examine its findings in detail.

    Why the Economic Survey Matters

The Economic Survey plays a significant role in shaping public and policy discourse around the economy. Its data-driven analysis helps stakeholders understand structural trends, emerging risks, and opportunities for reform.

For investors, industry leaders, and economists, the Survey offers insights into the government’s assessment of economic momentum and challenges. For Parliamentarians, it provides a factual basis for budget debates and legislative scrutiny.

As India navigates a complex global environment marked by slowing growth in major economies and geopolitical uncertainty, the Economic Survey 2025–26 is expected to outline how the country plans to sustain growth while maintaining macroeconomic stability.
