Gurugram Murder Case: Suspects Allegedly Sent Messages From Executive’s Phone to Mislead Family After His Death

The murder of 31-year-old Yuvraj Singh Manchanda, a project manager at Adani Realty, has raised serious questions after investigators alleged that two of his former colleagues continued sending messages from his mobile phone to his family for days after his death. The messages reportedly created the impression that Yuvraj was alive, working on an important business deal and travelling for professional reasons.

According to Delhi Police, Yuvraj was allegedly murdered on September 6 by former colleagues Anya Vats and Sanyam Sachdeva. Police have alleged that the two later disposed of his body in a drain in Gurugram. The suspects were subsequently apprehended in Uttarakhand and, according to police, confessed to the crime.

The case has also drawn attention to the circumstances surrounding the discovery and disposal of Yuvraj’s body. Haryana Police reportedly found his body on September 10, but his family said they were not informed until September 16. By then, the body had reportedly been cremated.

Yuvraj’s family has questioned why information about the unidentified body was not available to them earlier through police databases and has sought the return of his belongings and other documents connected with the case.

Family Received Messages After Yuvraj’s Alleged Death

Yuvraj was reportedly last seen alive on September 6. However, his family continued receiving messages from his mobile phone for the next two days.

According to his sister Karishma Manchanda, the messages indicated that Yuvraj was occupied with an important professional deal and wanted to be left undisturbed. One message reportedly said that he was travelling to Bengaluru for work and was accompanied by a photograph of a flight ticket.

Another message allegedly asked the family not to disturb him and stated that he would call after two days.

The family initially believed the messages had been sent by Yuvraj himself. His relatives reportedly tried to contact him by phone, but he did not answer their calls.

Karishma said the family repeatedly requested him to call them, show his face or send a voice message. According to her, one of the messages received by her younger sister indicated that Yuvraj would call on September 10.

When that call did not come and his phone was reportedly switched off, the family became increasingly concerned. A missing-person complaint was subsequently filed at Lajpat Nagar police station in Delhi on September 11.

Delhi Police have alleged that Vats and Sachdeva were responsible for sending the messages from Yuvraj’s phone in an attempt to maintain the impression that he was alive.

Body Found in Gurugram Drain

While Yuvraj’s family was still trying to establish his whereabouts, Haryana Police reportedly recovered a body from a drain in Gurugram on September 10.

The family, however, said they did not learn that the body had been recovered until September 16, when Karishma and Yuvraj’s friend Sahil reportedly visited Badshahpur police station.

According to the family, they were shocked to discover that the body had already been cremated on September 14.

Karishma said her family had been searching police records for information about missing and unidentified persons after filing the missing complaint. Relatives and friends reportedly checked the police database regularly in the hope of finding information that could help locate Yuvraj.

The family has alleged that Yuvraj’s photograph and details were not uploaded to the Zipnet system soon enough for them to identify him.

Zipnet is used by police agencies to share information concerning missing persons and unidentified bodies. The family claimed that they repeatedly checked the system but did not find an update during the period when they were searching for Yuvraj.

Police Explain Database Upload Process

The police response to the family’s allegation has reportedly focused on the distinction between Zipnet and the Crime and Criminal Tracking Network and Systems, or CCTNS.

According to the information cited in the report, Haryana Police maintained that Zipnet was not the principal pan-India system used for unidentified bodies. Police reportedly said the relevant details were uploaded to CCTNS on September 11 as part of the prescribed procedure.

The family, however, has questioned why they were unable to access information that could have helped them identify Yuvraj before the cremation.

Yuvraj’s friend Rajat Jain reportedly said that the family had checked Zipnet repeatedly after filing the missing-person complaint. He argued that if information about the body had been made available to the family immediately, they could have identified Yuvraj and performed his last rites themselves.

The dispute over the timing and method of uploading the information has become an important part of the family’s concerns about how the case was handled after the body was recovered.

Family Says Belongings Have Not Been Returned

The family has also raised concerns about Yuvraj’s personal belongings and documents.

Karishma reportedly visited Badshahpur police station seeking information about his belongings and said she had to wait for several hours. According to the family, they were still waiting for items including his clothes, a kada, a gold ring and his ashes.

Yuvraj’s friend Sahil reportedly said police informed them that his clothes had been discarded because they were emitting a foul smell.

The family has also sought the postmortem report and other documents related to the discovery and examination of the body.

For the family, the absence of these belongings has added to the distress surrounding a case in which they say they learned about Yuvraj’s death several days after his body had been recovered.

Yuvraj Was Preparing for His Wedding

Yuvraj’s death has had an especially severe impact on his family because he was reportedly preparing for his wedding.

Hours before he disappeared, he had reportedly gone shopping in Lajpat Nagar and purchased a sherwani for his wedding, which was scheduled for October.

His family and friends described him as a dedicated professional. He was working as a project manager with Adani Realty and was reportedly closely involved in supporting his parents.

His sister said their mother is a heart patient while their father is paralysed. According to the family, Yuvraj routinely returned home in the evening to take care of them.

His sudden disappearance and subsequent death therefore left his relatives dealing not only with the loss but also with unanswered questions about what happened to him after September 6.

Former Colleagues Named as Suspects

Delhi Police have identified Anya Vats and Sanyam Sachdeva as the two accused in the murder case. Both were reportedly former colleagues of Yuvraj at a real estate firm.

According to police, investigators began tracing Yuvraj’s movements and communications after the missing-person complaint was filed. The subsequent investigation reportedly led police to the two suspects, who were apprehended in Uttarakhand.

Police have alleged that the accused confessed to murdering Yuvraj and disposing of his body in a drain in Gurugram. The exact circumstances of the alleged murder and the motive remain matters for the ongoing investigation and judicial proceedings.

The police allegations have not yet been established as facts by a court, and the accused are entitled to due process.

Investigation Continues

The case now involves multiple strands of investigation, including the circumstances of Yuvraj’s disappearance, the alleged use of his phone after his death, the recovery and disposal of his body, and the handling of information by the police.

Investigators are also expected to examine digital communications, phone records and other evidence to establish who accessed Yuvraj’s device after September 6 and how the messages were sent to his family and friends.

For Yuvraj’s family, however, the immediate priority remains recovering his belongings and obtaining the official records connected with his death.

The case has also raised questions about how quickly information concerning unidentified bodies is communicated to families of missing persons and how different police information systems are used during such investigations.

As the investigation progresses, the evidence collected by Delhi and Haryana Police, along with any findings made by the courts, will determine the circumstances surrounding Yuvraj’s death and the responsibility of those accused in the case.
