India has finalized a $2 billion defense agreement with Russia for the procurement of advanced submarines, marking a significant boost to the country’s maritime capabilities. The deal comes as Russian President Vladimir Putin begins his visit to India, highlighting continued strategic cooperation between the two nations.

According to official sources, the agreement includes upgrades and new additions to India’s submarine fleet, aimed at strengthening security in the Indo-Pacific region. Both countries are expected to discuss a range of defense, trade, and energy partnerships during the high-level meetings.

The submarine deal reflects New Delhi’s ongoing focus on modernizing its naval forces amid evolving geopolitical challenges. India and Russia have maintained a long-standing defense partnership, with Moscow remaining one of India's major suppliers of military equipment.
