Jantar Mantar Protest: Abhijeet Dipke Alleges Assault on Reporters and Protesters, BJP Yet to Respond

Fresh controversy has emerged at Delhi's Jantar Mantar after political activist and Cockroach Janta Party (CJP) founder Abhijeet Dipke alleged that reporters and protesters participating in an ongoing demonstration were physically assaulted by individuals he identified as BJP workers. The allegations, shared through videos on social media, have intensified the political debate surrounding the protest, although no official confirmation of the claims has been issued by authorities.

Dipke, who has been staging a sit-in protest demanding the resignation of Union Education Minister Dharmendra Pradhan over alleged irregularities in competitive examinations, claimed the incident occurred in the presence of Delhi Police personnel. Videos posted on social media purportedly show scenes of confrontation, with voices alleging that protesters were being attacked. However, the circumstances surrounding the footage and the identities of those involved have not been independently verified.

The protest at Jantar Mantar has now entered its seventh day and continues to focus on allegations related to examination irregularities, including the controversy surrounding the NEET examination. Demonstrators have been demanding greater accountability from the Union Education Ministry and have called for action against those responsible for alleged lapses in the examination process.

Sharing the videos online, Dipke accused BJP workers of assaulting journalists covering the protest as well as individuals participating in the demonstration. In another post, he also questioned the actions of authorities after claiming that officials objected to certain items being brought to the protest venue, suggesting that administrative priorities were misplaced.

Earlier in the day, Dipke marked Union Education Minister Dharmendra Pradhan's birthday by displaying a handwritten message reading, "Happy Birthday, Pradhan. Please resign," while supporters gathered around him sang a birthday song. In a video message addressed to the minister, Dipke reiterated his demand for Pradhan's resignation and stated that the protest would continue until that demand was met.

According to Dipke, no representative of the Central Government has initiated dialogue with the protesters since the demonstration began. He further alleged that protesters had been unfairly labelled while attempting to raise concerns over issues affecting students and competitive examinations.

As of Friday, neither the Bharatiya Janata Party nor Delhi Police had issued an official response addressing Dipke's allegations of assault. Authorities have also not released any statement confirming or denying the claims made in the videos circulating on social media.

The incident has once again drawn attention to Jantar Mantar, which has long served as a designated venue for peaceful demonstrations and public protests in the national capital. Political parties, student groups, civil society organisations and activists frequently use the site to raise issues ranging from education and employment to governance and public policy.

The latest allegations are likely to add another dimension to the ongoing debate over examination reforms and student concerns, particularly as demands for greater transparency in the conduct of competitive examinations continue to gain public attention.

While the videos have generated discussion online, the facts surrounding the alleged confrontation remain subject to official verification. Authorities are expected to examine any available evidence if formal complaints are filed. Until then, the allegations remain claims made by the protest organisers and have not been independently established.

The protest itself continues at Jantar Mantar, with demonstrators maintaining their demand for accountability over examination-related issues and calling for action from the Union Education Ministry. Whether the latest allegations lead to an official inquiry or further political reactions remains to be seen in the coming days.
