    Rahul Gandhi Condoles Death of Former Union Minister Sriprakash Jaiswal

    Leader of the Opposition in the Lok Sabha Rahul Gandhi on Saturday expressed deep sorrow over the passing of former Union Minister Sriprakash Jaiswal, remembering him as a dedicated public servant and an important Congress leader.

    In a message shared on X, Gandhi called Jaiswal’s death “heartbreaking” and praised his long-standing contribution to public life.
    “He set an example through his commitment to public service and the party. His departure is an irreplaceable loss for the Congress,” he wrote. Gandhi also conveyed his condolences to Jaiswal’s family, supporters, and well-wishers.

    Congress President Mallikarjun Kharge also paid tribute on Friday, describing Jaiswal as a valued colleague during the UPA years and a leader who worked consistently for the development of Kanpur.
    “He served with honesty and dedication. His passing is a great loss for the Congress,” Kharge posted on X, while extending his sympathies to the family.

     

    Sriprakash Jaiswal, 81, passed away in Kanpur on Friday evening after a prolonged illness. Born on September 25, 1944, he began his political career as Kanpur’s mayor in 1989. He was elected to the Lok Sabha for the first time in 1999 and represented the Kanpur constituency until 2014. He served as Minister of State for Home Affairs in 2004 and later as Union Minister of Coal from 2011 to 2014.
