Strong Winds Bring Temporary Relief to Delhi-NCR’s Air Quality

Residents of Delhi-NCR witnessed slight relief from toxic air on Tuesday as strong surface winds (15–25 km/h) helped disperse suspended pollutants. After days in the ‘very poor’ and ‘severe’ categories, several monitoring stations reported AQI levels dropping below 300. Noida also saw improvement, with AQI touching around 255 in parts of the city.

Data from the CPCB shows mixed readings across Delhi: Pusa at 270, Shadipur 239, Vivek Vihar 323, Wazirpur 320, and RK Puram 313. According to the IMD, light fog is expected on December 9, followed by shallow fog on December 10 and dense fog on December 11, with temperatures ranging from 24°C (max) to 7–9°C (min).

IMD officials warn that pollution may rise again as wind speed is expected to drop, reducing atmospheric dispersion. AQI categories range from ‘good’ (0–50) to ‘severe’ (401–500), with higher levels posing serious health risks, especially for sensitive groups such as children, the elderly, and people with respiratory issues.
