17-Year-Old Girl Allegedly G*ng-Rap*d at Delhi’s Aastha Kunj Park on Birthday, Three Arrested

A 17-year-old girl was allegedly gang-raped inside Aastha Kunj Park in South Delhi after three men allegedly posed as policemen, threatened her and her male friend with weapons and took them to a secluded area, according to the FIR and the teenager’s statement to police. The alleged incident took place on September 21, when the girl had gone out to visit Kalkaji Mandir on her birthday.

Delhi Police have arrested all three accused in connection with the case and taken them into custody as the investigation continues.

According to the account recorded by police, the teenager had planned to visit Kalkaji Mandir to seek blessings on her birthday. She asked a friend to accompany her, and the two left home at around 5 pm. They reached the temple at approximately 5:45 pm and remained there until around 7 pm.

The teenager subsequently suggested that they visit the ISKCON temple as well. On the way, the two entered Aastha Kunj Park through Gate No. 7 and decided to sit there for some time before continuing towards the temple.

What followed, according to the girl’s complaint, was a sudden confrontation with three men.

Men Allegedly Claimed To Be Policemen

The teenager told police that three men, believed to be between 30 and 35 years old, approached her and her friend shortly after they sat down in the park.

According to her statement, the men grabbed her friend and slapped him. When the two questioned them about their identity, the men allegedly claimed to be policemen and questioned them about why they were inside the park. They reportedly told the pair that entry into the area was not permitted.

The girl alleged that one of the men then took her friend away while the other two took possession of their mobile phones.

She said the men subsequently directed her towards a secluded portion of the park. The teenager reportedly told them that if they wanted to question her, they could do so where she was or speak to her mother.

According to the FIR, the situation escalated when one of the accused allegedly referred to another man as “Asif” and instructed him to take out a gun. The girl told police that the man displayed what appeared to be a black-coloured pistol before putting it away.

Girl Alleges Threats With Weapons

The teenager further alleged that the accused took out knives and forced her towards a dark and isolated section of the park.

According to her statement, she was threatened and prevented from raising an alarm. She alleged that the three men sexually assaulted her one after another.

Police are investigating the allegations and the circumstances surrounding the incident. The allegations in the complaint are subject to the ongoing legal process, and the accused are presumed innocent unless proven guilty in court.

The girl also told investigators that she was in severe distress during the alleged assault and repeatedly pleaded with the accused to stop. She alleged that the men continued to threaten her with weapons.

After the alleged assault, the men reportedly instructed her to get dressed and subsequently brought her friend back.

Couple Ordered to Leave Park

According to the FIR, the accused returned the mobile phones belonging to the girl and her friend after the alleged incident. The two were then allegedly ordered to leave the park immediately.

The teenager told police that the accused threatened to kill them if they disclosed what had happened.

The pair eventually left the park. After leaving the area, the girl reportedly told her friend about the alleged sexual assault. Her friend then contacted the police control room and informed authorities about the incident.

Police personnel reached the area and began investigating the complaint.

The case was subsequently registered and the three accused were arrested. They are currently in police custody as investigators examine the allegations and gather evidence.

Investigation Underway

The case has raised concerns about the safety of visitors in public parks, particularly in areas that may have secluded or poorly monitored sections.

The incident occurred in Aastha Kunj Park, a large green area in South Delhi located near Kalkaji and other prominent religious and institutional landmarks. The teenager had reportedly entered the park with her friend while travelling towards the ISKCON temple after visiting Kalkaji Mandir.

The police investigation is expected to examine the exact sequence of events, the identities and roles of the three accused, the alleged use of weapons and the circumstances in which the teenager and her friend were approached.

Investigators may also examine available surveillance footage and other evidence from the park and surrounding areas as part of the probe.
