Delhi Family’s Goa Holiday Turns Tragic After Nightclub Fire

A long-awaited vacation turned into a heartbreaking tragedy when four members of a Delhi family lost their lives in a massive nightclub fire in Goa. Only one member of the group survived and is currently recovering from injuries, according to police.

Just a few days earlier, Vinod Kumar, his wife Bhavna, and her three sisters had left their home in Karawal Nagar with excitement for their first trip together in years. The getaway was meant to be a short break from daily routines. But on Monday, Vinod’s mother sat at the same doorstep, unaware that four of them would never return.

The fire broke out early Sunday at a popular nightclub in Arpora, killing 25 people. Among the victims were Vinod Kumar (43), his sisters-in-law Anita (41), Saroj (39), and Kamla (42). Vinod’s wife, 38-year-old Bhavna Joshi, was the only survivor from the family.

Relatives said the four sisters had planned the holiday for months, feeling comfortable to travel now that their children were older. Vinod had joined them to ensure their safety during the trip. Neighbours recalled seeing the group leave their home happily, not knowing the tragedy that awaited.

Residents of the neighbourhood expressed shock and anger, pointing out frequent incidents linked to poor enforcement of safety rules. Some claimed the nightclub had previously been ordered to shut down but continued operating.

Back in Delhi, the grief-stricken family is struggling to cope. Vinod and Bhavna’s children, aged 11 and six, have been kept away from the crowd of visitors. Kamla’s teenage children, waiting for their mother to return with souvenirs, have barely spoken since the news reached them.

Vinod’s elderly mother remains confused, repeatedly asking if the injured have been moved to a better hospital. Relatives fear how she will react when she learns the truth.
