Mandya continues to remain a major centre for India’s biofuel production and is crucial for meeting the country’s target of achieving 20% ethanol blending with petrol by 2025, said S.E. Sudheendra, Chairman of the Karnataka State Bioenergy Development Board.

Speaking at the valedictory event of Krishi Mela 2025 in Mandya, he noted that the district has a long history of contributing to the biofuel sector. He recalled that as early as 1939, Mandya had supplied ethanol to Mumbai’s public transport red buses. He added that the district, known as the “land of sugar,” remains a significant ethanol producer today.

The Karnataka State Bioenergy Development Board had set up a stall at the Krishi Mela to showcase its ongoing bioenergy action plans and the proposed Bioenergy Policy for the State.
