A 31-year-old Delhi man who left his family during a shopping trip to meet a former colleague in Gurugram was allegedly murdered by the woman and her partner following a suspected financial dispute, according to police. The man’s body was later found disposed of in a drain near the accused’s residence.

The victim, identified as Yuvraj Singh Manchanda, had been preparing to get married within a month. His disappearance on September 6 triggered a search by his family, who eventually approached Delhi Police after failing to contact him.

The case has also raised questions from the victim’s family over how his body was handled after it was reportedly recovered by Gurugram Police. The family has alleged that authorities did not inform them before the unidentified body was cremated.

Yuvraj Left Family During Shopping Trip

According to the investigation, Yuvraj had gone shopping with his sisters in Delhi on September 6 as preparations for his upcoming wedding were underway.

The family visited the Lajpat Nagar market to purchase a sherwani for Yuvraj. After shopping, they stopped at a restaurant in the area at around 4:15pm.

While they were there, Yuvraj reportedly told his sisters that he had to attend an urgent meeting with a former colleague in Gurugram. He then left the restaurant, while his sisters returned home in a cab.

Yuvraj remained in contact with his family for some time after leaving.

His relatives spoke to him by phone at around 7pm that evening. During the conversation, he reportedly told them that he would return home by around 10pm.

However, he did not come back.

When his family attempted to contact him later, his phone became unreachable.

Last WhatsApp Message Received on September 8

The family continued trying to establish contact with Yuvraj over the following days.

On September 8, they received what they said was the last WhatsApp message from his phone at around 4:16pm. His phone was then switched off or became unreachable again.

With no information about his whereabouts, the family eventually filed a missing-person complaint at the Lajpat Nagar police station on September 11.

The investigation subsequently focused on Yuvraj’s final movements, his phone records and the people he had planned to meet before disappearing.

Police found that his last known phone interaction was with a woman identified as Vats, a former colleague whom he had reportedly gone to meet in Gurugram.

    Former Colleague Emerges as Suspect

Investigators began examining the woman’s phone and found that it had been switched off.

Police then analysed technical information, CCTV footage and other evidence while also making inquiries at the workplaces associated with Yuvraj and the suspect.

During the investigation, police reportedly discovered that the woman had begun using another mobile number.

This new information helped investigators trace her movements. Police eventually arrested the woman from Uttarakhand.

Another person, identified as the woman’s partner, was also arrested in connection with the case.

According to police, both suspects were questioned about Yuvraj’s disappearance and the circumstances surrounding his death.

Investigators allege that the two suspects eventually disclosed that they had killed Yuvraj and disposed of his body in a drain near their house in Gurugram.

    Financial Dispute Suspected as Motive

Police are currently investigating a suspected financial dispute as the possible motive behind the alleged murder.

However, the exact circumstances that led to the killing remain under investigation.

Yuvraj’s family has alleged that the accused woman has not revealed the complete reason behind the crime and has questioned whether the suspected financial dispute represents the full motive.

Police are continuing to question both accused to establish how the crime was allegedly carried out, what led to the confrontation and what happened to Yuvraj after he left Delhi.

Both accused have been sent to five days of police custody.

    Family Raises Questions Over Cremation

A major aspect of the case concerns the handling of Yuvraj’s body after it was recovered.

According to the victim’s family, Gurugram Police recovered a body on September 10 but did not inform them that it could potentially be linked to Yuvraj.

The family has also alleged that information concerning the unidentified body was not uploaded to the Zonal Integrated Police Network, commonly known as ZIPNET, within the time they expected.

The body was ultimately cremated by authorities on September 14, according to the report, before Yuvraj’s family was informed of his death.

The family has since demanded that all available evidence connected with the case be preserved.

They have specifically sought access to the post-mortem report, inquiry documents, photographs, DNA samples and Yuvraj’s personal belongings.

The circumstances surrounding the identification and disposal of the unidentified body are likely to form an important part of the questions raised by the family as the investigation progresses.

    Legal Procedure for Unidentified Bodies

Under established procedures, authorities can arrange for the cremation of an unidentified body when attempts to establish its identity have failed and the prescribed procedures, including publication of information through relevant missing-person and unidentified-body networks, have been followed.

In Yuvraj’s case, however, his family has questioned whether sufficient efforts were made to identify the body before it was cremated.

The allegations will need to be examined by the authorities through the appropriate inquiry process. The police investigation into the alleged murder remains separate from any examination of whether the procedures surrounding the unidentified body were properly followed.

Yuvraj Was Sole Breadwinner of Family

The death has left the family facing both emotional and financial difficulties.

According to the family, Yuvraj was the sole breadwinner. His father is paralysed, while his mother suffers from a heart condition.

His death came shortly before his planned marriage, adding to the shock for relatives who had been preparing for the wedding.

The family’s account has also intensified their demand for answers about the circumstances surrounding his disappearance, death and the subsequent handling of his remains.

Police Continue to Reconstruct the Crime

Investigators are now working to establish a detailed timeline beginning with Yuvraj’s departure from the Lajpat Nagar restaurant on September 6.

Police are expected to examine CCTV footage from Delhi and Gurugram, phone records, location data, financial transactions and statements from the accused and other individuals who may have information about the case.

The investigation will also focus on determining whether the alleged financial dispute was the sole reason for the crime or whether other circumstances were involved.

The discovery of the alleged disposal location and the statements of the arrested suspects are expected to be examined alongside independent evidence before the case moves forward.

The arrests of the former colleague and her partner have provided investigators with key leads, but allegations made during interrogation will have to be corroborated through evidence and established in court.

For Yuvraj’s family, the investigation now involves two parallel concerns: establishing responsibility for his alleged murder and understanding how his body was handled before the family was notified.

As police continue their investigation, the case is expected to remain under scrutiny over the suspected motive, the sequence of events in Gurugram and the circumstances surrounding the cremation of the unidentified body.
