Yugcharan News / 30-10-2026
India witnessed several major developments on Friday, October 30, 2026, ranging from heavy rainfall and transport arrangements in the national capital to political developments, economic figures, university reforms and weather-related incidents in different states. Delhi remained among the key centres of attention as continuous rain prompted the India Meteorological Department (IMD) to maintain a red alert, while the Delhi Metro Rail Corporation (DMRC) announced extended train services to accommodate thousands of spectators expected at Punjabi singer Diljit Dosanjh’s concert at Jawaharlal Nehru Stadium.
Other significant developments included the INDIA bloc’s decision to postpone its planned protest against Chief Election Commissioner Gyanesh Kumar, Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s two-day visit to Gujarat, India’s rising diesel exports and Jamia Millia Islamia’s decision to restore its students’ union and conduct elections after nearly two decades.
Delhi Metro Extends Services for Diljit Dosanjh Concert
The Delhi Metro Rail Corporation announced that metro services on all lines, except the Airport Express Line and Gurugram’s Rapid Metro, would operate until midnight on Friday to facilitate the movement of spectators attending Diljit Dosanjh’s concert at Jawaharlal Nehru Stadium.
The concert is expected to attract approximately 70,000 people, prompting transport authorities to make additional arrangements to manage the anticipated rush. DMRC said additional train trips would be operated and standby trains would remain available to handle increased passenger movement.
The JLN Stadium Metro station, located on the Violet Line, is the nearest metro station to the concert venue. Additional staff and security personnel are also being deployed at the station and important interchange stations to ensure smoother passenger movement.
The timings for purchasing QR tickets through the Delhi Metro Sarthi application have also been extended by one hour. These arrangements are intended to reduce congestion and make it easier for concertgoers to reach the stadium and return home after the event.
The Delhi Police has also stepped up security arrangements around the venue in view of the large gathering expected for the performance.
Heavy Rain Continues in Delhi as IMD Maintains Red Alert
Delhi continued to receive heavy rainfall on Friday, with the India Meteorological Department retaining its red alert for several parts of the capital. The weather agency warned of further showers, thunderstorms and lightning over the following hours.
According to the reported figures, Delhi received 61.4 mm of rainfall in the 24 hours preceding Friday morning. This made October 30 the wettest October day in the capital in four years.
The month’s cumulative rainfall reached 123.3 mm, the highest October total since 2022. The continuing showers brought a noticeable change in weather conditions and also contributed to an improvement in the city’s air quality.
Delhi’s Air Quality Index stood at 90 at 9.30 am, according to the Central Pollution Control Board. This placed the city in the satisfactory category, offering some relief from the pollution levels that have remained a major concern for residents.
The maximum temperature was expected to settle around 27 degrees Celsius. Authorities and residents remained alert to the possibility of further rainfall, thunderstorms and lightning as the IMD warning continued.
INDIA Bloc Postpones Protest Against CEC Gyanesh Kumar
The INDIA bloc has postponed its planned public protest, described by organisers as a ‘public impeachment’ of Chief Election Commissioner Gyanesh Kumar, until Saturday because of the weather situation in Delhi.
The protest is linked to allegations of irregularities in the Special Intensive Revision of electoral rolls. Opposition parties have raised concerns over the voter-list revision process and have demanded accountability from the Chief Election Commissioner.
The programme will now take place at the residence of Congress president Mallikarjun Kharge in New Delhi. Former Lok Sabha Speaker Meira Kumar is scheduled to preside over the proceedings.
The postponement comes amid continuing rainfall and weather warnings across the national capital. The proposed event had been planned as a public demonstration of the opposition’s concerns regarding the electoral-roll revision exercise.
The development also comes as the Election Commission has extended certain deadlines associated with the ongoing SIR process in multiple states, following judicial scrutiny of the timelines.
Election Commission Extends SIR Deadlines in Six States
The Election Commission has extended the deadline for filing voter enrolment and deletion forms under the ongoing Special Intensive Revision of electoral rolls in Delhi. It has also reopened the claims and objections window in five other states where the period had previously ended under the latest published schedules.
The states covered by the decision are Nagaland, Telangana, Maharashtra, Andhra Pradesh and Haryana, in addition to Delhi.
According to the information reported, the Commission has revised the date for publication of final electoral rolls to November 30 in Nagaland, Andhra Pradesh, Telangana, Maharashtra and Haryana. For Delhi, the final publication date has been extended to December 22.
The decision followed a hearing in the Supreme Court, where the court asked the Election Commission on Thursday to consider extending the deadline for filing claims and objections beyond October 30 in connection with a petition concerning the ongoing SIR exercise in Delhi.
The Commission communicated the revised timelines through separate letters to the respective State Chief Electoral Officers.
The latest extension is part of a series of changes to the SIR schedule across states. The process has drawn political attention, with opposition parties raising questions about its implementation and the treatment of voters during the revision exercise.

Rs 325-Crore Cattle Breeding Centre Inaugurated in Gujarat
During his Gujarat visit, Prime Minister Narendra Modi inaugurated the Bharat Bovine Breeding and Research Centre at Bhildi in Banaskantha district.
The facility has been developed across 127 acres at a reported cost of Rs 325 crore. Its primary objective is to improve indigenous cattle breeds and support higher milk production through advanced breeding technologies.
The centre will use techniques such as in-vitro fertilisation and embryo transfer to improve the quality of cattle breeding. It will focus on important indigenous breeds, including Gir, Kankrej and Sahiwal cows, along with Mehsani and Murrah buffaloes.
The facility has an annual target of producing 25,000 high-quality embryos.
The project is expected to support dairy farmers by improving access to breeding services and helping increase milk yields. The use of advanced reproductive technologies is intended to strengthen breeding programmes and improve the productivity of livestock.
The inauguration forms part of the broader agricultural and infrastructure agenda announced during the Prime Minister’s visit.
India’s Diesel Exports Reach 13-Month High in October
India’s diesel exports increased significantly in October, reaching their highest level in 13 months as domestic refiners took advantage of stronger international margins and disruptions in global fuel supplies.
Diesel exports rose 19.6 per cent month-on-month to approximately 0.71 million barrels per day, according to the figures reported.
Reliance Industries accounted for nearly 78 per cent of the country’s diesel exports during the period. Public sector refiners also increased overseas shipments.
The rise in exports has been linked to supply disruptions associated with the conflict in West Asia and the Russia-Ukraine war. Changes in Russian fuel supplies, including reductions following attacks on its refineries, have also affected international diesel markets.
India has emerged as the world’s second-largest diesel exporter, reflecting the growing role of its refining sector in international fuel trade.
Industry experts expect exports to remain strong over the coming months, although increasing domestic demand could restrict the volume of fuel available for overseas markets.
Public sector refiners are also expected to add 15 million tonnes per annum of diesel production capacity next year. The additional capacity could strengthen India's ability to meet domestic requirements while maintaining its position in international fuel markets.
Jamia Millia Islamia Agrees to Restore Students’ Union
Jamia Millia Islamia has agreed to restore its students’ union and conduct elections after nearly two decades, following weeks of protests and a hunger strike by students.
In a late-night order, the university administration set May 15, 2027, as the deadline for approving and implementing the students’ union constitution.
The administration also directed that elections be conducted within six weeks of the beginning of the next academic session, which is expected to commence on July 15, 2027.
Another significant part of the decision concerns disciplinary action taken during the student agitation. The university ordered the withdrawal of disciplinary proceedings, suspensions, rustications and campus bans connected with the protests.
The announcement triggered celebrations across the campus. More than 1,000 students reportedly joined a victory march following the administration’s decision.
Five students who had been observing a hunger strike also called off their fast after the announcement.
The decision marks a major development in the university’s student representation process. The restoration of the union and the proposed election schedule are expected to bring an organised mechanism for student representation back to the institution.

Multiple Developments Mark a Busy Friday Across India
Friday’s developments reflected a wide range of political, economic, administrative and public-safety concerns across the country. Delhi faced persistent rainfall and weather warnings while simultaneously preparing for a major concert expected to draw around 70,000 spectators.
The postponement of the INDIA bloc’s protest and the Election Commission’s revised SIR deadlines also kept electoral issues in focus. Meanwhile, Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s Gujarat visit featured major infrastructure and agricultural announcements, including the inauguration of a cattle breeding and research facility.
In the economic sector, higher diesel exports highlighted India’s growing presence in international fuel markets. At Jamia Millia Islamia, the decision to restore student union elections marked a significant development following weeks of campus agitation.
Weather-related incidents in Uttarakhand and local accidents in Delhi and Kerala further underlined the importance of emergency preparedness and public safety. Together, these developments made October 30 a significant day across several sectors and regions of India.
