    India Invited to Join US ‘Board of Peace’ Initiative on Gaza, Decision Yet to Be Taken

    The United States has extended an invitation to India to join a new international initiative titled the “Board of Peace,” aimed at contributing to the resolution of major global conflicts, with an initial focus on the ongoing situation in Gaza. The development was confirmed through an official communication from the White House, which was later shared publicly by the US ambassador to India.

    According to the statement, the initiative has been conceived as a platform for dialogue and coordination among selected countries to explore pathways for peace and stability in conflict-affected regions. Gaza, which has witnessed prolonged humanitarian and political challenges, is expected to be among the first areas of engagement under the proposed framework.

    At present, there is no official confirmation on whether India will accept the invitation. The Ministry of External Affairs has not issued a formal response, and officials familiar with the matter indicated that consultations are likely to be held internally before any decision is taken. India traditionally evaluates such multilateral engagements based on its foreign policy principles, strategic interests, and its long-standing position on regional conflicts.

    Diplomatic sources noted that the invitation reflects Washington’s recognition of India’s growing role in global affairs and its diplomatic standing across regions. India has, in recent years, positioned itself as a voice for dialogue, de-escalation, and humanitarian considerations, particularly in complex international disputes. However, New Delhi has also maintained a careful balance, often avoiding initiatives that could be perceived as aligned too closely with one side in sensitive geopolitical conflicts.

    The “Board of Peace” initiative is reported to have been extended to around 60 countries across different regions. Among those invited are several nations from Asia, Europe, Africa, and the Middle East. India’s neighbouring country Pakistan has also received an invitation, and its government has publicly indicated willingness to participate in international efforts aimed at peace and security in Gaza.

    The invitation comes at a time when India–US relations are experiencing a phase of adjustment, particularly on the economic front. Ongoing trade-related disagreements, including high tariffs imposed on certain Indian exports to the United States, have added strain to bilateral ties. Some Indian exports currently face tariff levels that are among the highest applied by Washington to any trading partner, an issue that has been raised in multiple diplomatic and commercial discussions.

    Despite these challenges, both countries have continued engagement across defence, technology, education, and strategic cooperation. Analysts suggest that the peace initiative invitation should be viewed within this broader context of a multifaceted relationship that includes both cooperation and contention.

    Experts on foreign policy point out that India’s response will likely depend on the exact structure, mandate, and decision-making process of the proposed board. Questions remain about whether the initiative will have a purely consultative role or whether it will involve direct mediation, political commitments, or security-related responsibilities. India has historically preferred platforms that emphasise dialogue, humanitarian aid, and respect for international law, while remaining cautious about formal roles in conflict mediation without broad international consensus.

    Gaza remains one of the most complex and sensitive conflict zones in global politics. Any international engagement in the region is closely scrutinised for its political implications, regional impact, and humanitarian outcomes. India has consistently expressed concern over civilian suffering in the region while also calling for restraint, dialogue, and a negotiated solution.

     

    As global attention continues to focus on conflict resolution and stability in West Asia, India’s decision on whether to join the “Board of Peace” will be closely watched by diplomatic observers. For now, the invitation marks another moment highlighting India’s evolving role on the world stage, even as it navigates a careful and calculated foreign policy path.
