The results of the Municipal Corporation of Delhi (MCD) by-elections were announced today, with the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) emerging as the leading party by winning 7 out of 12 wards. The Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) secured 3 seats, while the Congress and the All India Forward Bloc (AIFB) won one seat each.

Voting for the 12 wards was held on November 30. Of these, nine seats were previously held by the BJP, while the remaining three were with AAP. This by-election recorded a voter turnout of 38.51%, lower than the 50.47% turnout reported in the 2022 civic elections for 250 wards.

According to the State Election Commission, counting was conducted at 10 centres, including Kanjhawala, Pitampura, Bharat Nagar, Civil Lines, Rouse Avenue, Dwarka, Najafgarh, Gole Market, Pushp Vihar and Mandawali.

Following the results, BJP State President Virendra Sachdeva thanked voters and said the party’s performance reflects the public’s continued support for its work in the capital.

Key victories included BJP’s wins in Shalimar Bagh, Chandni Chowk, and other wards, while AAP secured wins in Dakshin Puri and Mundka. Congress opened its account with a win in Sangam Vihar-A, and AIFB gained the Chandani Mahal ward.

The by-election results set the tone for upcoming political developments in Delhi as all major parties assess their next steps in the civic landscape.
