The Union Government has agreed to bring back a pregnant woman and her eight-year-old son who were recently deported to Bangladesh, following the intervention of the Supreme Court on humanitarian grounds.

A Bench led by Chief Justice of India Surya Kant, along with Justice Joymalya Bagchi, recorded the Centre’s assurance that the woman, identified as Sonali Khatoon, would receive free medical care and all necessary support after her return. The Court also directed authorities to ensure daily care and assistance for the child.

The assurance came during a hearing in which the Court expressed concern about the woman’s health condition and the welfare of her minor son.

The government informed the Bench that arrangements would be made to provide appropriate facilities considering the woman’s advanced stage of pregnancy.
