Greater Bengaluru Authority Suspends Six Revenue Officials for Issuing Khatas in Unapproved Layouts

The Greater Bengaluru Authority (GBA) has suspended six revenue officials from the Begur division after an internal inquiry found they had issued khata certificates for plots created in layouts that were not approved by planning authorities. This marks the first major disciplinary action taken by the GBA against its own staff since its formation.

The inquiry was initiated following a complaint filed in April 2025 by Mohan Babu. Based on the complaint, the GBA requested a detailed report from the Bommanahalli Joint Commissioner. The report confirmed that the officials had violated a circular issued jointly by the GBA and the Bruhat Bengaluru Mahanagara Palike (BBMP) in October 2024.

The circular strictly prohibited the division of sites without following planning norms, noting that such actions could result in revenue loss and reduce designated open spaces. The report also pointed to violations of Section 17 of the Karnataka Town and Country Planning Act, 1961, which permits khata issuance only for layouts approved by statutory bodies such as the Bangalore Development Authority (BDA).

The GBA stated that the suspensions were necessary to ensure accountability and maintain transparency in property-related processes within the city.
